I was playing the other night and i fought some giants , it seem than most of them are stronger than some low level dragons , is that a bug or what ? Does anyone think the same ?

Giants cause considerably more damage and at later stages in the game have more health. If a Dragon fights a Giant (which often happens if a Dragon spawns near a Giant) the Giant will win every time.


However Giants are slow and have no ranged attacks so you can kite them for eternity. Something you can't do with Dragons.

Giants scale with level? I was under the impression that they were simply the strongest stagnant enemy, and that eventually you would surpass them.

There are definitely some dragons weaker than giants. I've had giants take down dragons for me, before turning on me. If I see them battling I leave them to it because it just makes killing the giant easier if he eats a bunch of fire/ice breaths. Plus the giants tend to have better drops on them. The only giant I've ever seen killed by a dragon in a fight was one fighting a Blood Dragon, and I think that was because it stayed in the air rather than landing, while every other time I see a dragon fight anything other than me it tends to land and get beat on.

Not in my game. I can kill giants in 2 shots from my bow, but dragon fights are a dicey matter that take a lot of healing items and are tough fights. I have noticed that Dragons get harder the more you play, while giants get easier. So the dynamic may be reversed for the first few levels, but by the end game Dragons are going to be the only things that consistently have a chance to kill you.

Dragons are mucked by cover.

They cannot shoot through it.
They cannot move around fast enough to melee you.


Give me single stoneblock, a bow and some arrows, as well as the healing spell, and I can kill any dragon naked


Any enemy that cannot move at super speed and does unavoidable leap attacks can be killed by almost smart gameplay alone, and even they can be killed by smart gameplay, altough that's more in the bordeline of exploit.

I know that a lot of people find it offensive that dragons aren't the greatest thing ever. Where they weren't hunted to extinction by man using equipment not even above steel, fairly low for the setting all things considered, they were pushed out by common animals like cliffracers. The threat they pose is simply in hostility and surprise, not individual strength. And by their leader.

I've witnessed a fight between a Giant and his Mammoth with a Dragon, and i have to say to my great suprise the Giant completely slaughtered the Dragon. I thought they would be so crippled on health so i ambushed them a few moments after i absorbed the Dragon's soul, and even more surprising they had nearly full health!

Giants are fine. It's the dragons who seem too weak in my opinion.

Noticed that myself. Was thinking of staring a topic on how the native wildlife of Skyrim is more dangerous than the feared Dragons! I can kill a Dragon, its hard but I can do it without dying. But I can't survive a mammoth. It takes more hits than the scaly beast! Every time a Dragon swoops down upon me it goes off to attack the nearest wolf or mammoth. Only to get slaughtered by it. And when I join the fight (after running forever to catch up with the damn thing) the mammoth, after finishing of the dragon, turns to me with full health and chases me down and kills me. I'm at one point where it keeps spawning a Dragon outside Whiterun and it chases after me only to get killed by the mammoth or sabre cat wondering around. I never get a chance to fight Dragons!

Why are the people of Skyrim so afraid of Dragons when just stepping outside your gates has you getting destroyed by a wolf, or mammoth, or some pansy in a bathrobe? Don't be fooled by mythology kids, mammoth's are the REAL Dragonslayers.

I kited the 2 giants east of whiterun to whiterun and killed both there and a mammoth. There is a 2 foot wall that they would not cross. I'd hop over hit em with magic and hop back when they came running. Simple enough. Haven't seen a dragon yet tho.

I have no problem with Giant's being stronger in pure brute strength 1 on 1 confrontation. As others have mentioned, Dragons are still superior creatures due to their ability to attack from range, fly, and move fast.

Well... i have a harder time killing a bandit chief rather than a dragon - no exagerations.
Also, unfortunately dragons pick other targets in their vincinity while you can smack them at your leisure. But even when i am alone dragons... do not pose any real challenge...
I play on master... Wish they were harder or at least wish they could cast some other summoning spells or use plenty of voice powers that would make their fight more challenging.......
Also some dragons.. i didn't even get a chance to fight them. They were owned by saber cats/bears and giants..

If dragons had the strength of giants and mammoths it would be totally unbalanced as they don't attack and hunt you like a dragon would. If you keep out of their way then they're no more danger than a bunny!

Keep in mind the dragons named 'dragon' are basically 'drakes' in power to the later stages of dragon. They're just flying lizards, you could almost use a fly swatter on them.

Dragons get way, way more powerful as you go on. There are also some Elder and Ancient dragons hidden in the game that would one hit a giant.

Huh? Giants are slow? Ever tried to run away from a giant? For some reason they are like three times as fast as anything else in the game.
