[REQ] Give vendors more gold.

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 10:52 pm

48 hours.. The perk "selling to all merchants" is nice but all the running is no fun at all.

It seems to me 5k is a reasonable enough limit.

Agree, they sell stuff worth 2k+ but only have 500 in change? If they want it, THEY should get the money, not me with some perk.

Yawn,

There's got to be a console command to give you guys infinite amount of gold, this way you dont have to bother about looting and selling at all.

I know, really irritates me that all vendors have either 500 or 750, I have things I want to sell worth over 1300, how am I supposed to sell it?

What I usually do is, if I have a lot of crap to sell, is to buy all things that I might find usefull.
Then the vendor will have more money, so I can sell the things that I want to sell.

player.additem F still works if you need coin.

Ex. player.additem F 50000 = 50,000 septims.

As if getting loads of gold isn't easy enough already. The first time I had the chance to buy a house (I was around level 10), I had enough to buy a house, decorate it fully and still had 5000 left over. Later, around level 25, I bought my way from 20 to 100 in smithing by buying all the materials from vendors; cost around 13000 but it was barely a dent in my finances.

If you are just looking for getting rid of your equipment for something useful in exchange, most of the time you can just buy ingredients and minerals to use for crafting or magical items to disenchant and tada, they have gold for your stuff. But if you desperately need the gold for training or such and feel it's too inconvenient and stupid to constantly fast travel around the map to sell your loot, which it is, the gold cap of vendors could be increased. BUT only if the prices they offer for your items were much lower than now. You would make money way too easy otherwise with high crafting skills. An alternate approach has also been presented on this forum with the idea of a mod for putting your loot for sale in your own store.

1. Open console.
2. Click on the vendor.
3. In the console window, a hexadecimal value should "light" up.
4. Type additem f 10000
5. Close console.

The vendor should now have 10K gold. Repeat as required.

You don't really need more than 10k at any given time... heck I have 30k from selling a couple of things every now and then.

But yes, it's a pain to sell what you have, I have over 40k worth of gold, in items stashed in my house (Needed to get rid of weight). And I don't want to sell them because I'd rather go chasing off quests, dragons, and the dragon shout locations. Rather than spend 5-10 minutes selling it all.

Yes I said 5-10 minutes, really easy and fast to sell everything you got in Whiterun. Just wait 24 game hours, then a additional hour (Vendor NPCs are really bugged and weird sometimes) and keep on selling.

The gold system in Skyrim is just as broken as it was in Oblivion. My level 10 character has 10k gold (I could easily have 20k if I cared though) and I have no idea where to spend it. I could buy a house or horse and do some training, but other than that money is superfluous. And I can't even sell most of my stuff since vendors run out of money so I give my loot away for free to clean up my inventory. Far, far too much money and nothing useful to spend it on.

A vendor/economy overhaul is badly needed. Instead of giving vendors more money I would like to see a mod that gives the player less money. And that gives vendors more useful things to buy.

That's not at all addressing the OP's comments. But you apparently just wanted to give a smarmy answer rather than a serious one. The argument that merchants should have more money available, especially considering what many of them are selling, is logical and reasonable.

player.additem F still works if you need coin.
Ex. player.additem F 50000 = 50,000 septims.
That's just a blatant cheat rather than giving the merchants a permanent supply of gold that matches their selection of wares. It doesn't fix anything, and probably just exacerbates the underlying problem.

This suggestion is better, but it's a bit tedious. Doubtless there will be a mod that does exactly what the OP is looking for, which is to permanently increase the gold they have available. Hopefully though it won't be a generic "everybody now has 50k gold" mod, but instead is based on the city, their location, the quality of the shop and their wares.

I agree. While I still think merchants should have more money available, the price of goods also needs to be dropped. It's way too easy to earn money in the game (as usual) and there are not nearly enough money sinks to spend it on. Further, not only did they not address the "too much gold" issue, but they even took out money sinks that have previously been available, such as the need to repair your gear.

However, specifically on the issue of merchant's gold supply: Changing the amount of gold is more of a "realism" mod than a convenience mod, as you are still going to end up having to wait or return the next day. Unless you give them ridiculous amounts of gold, even with an enhanced pool you still probably won't be able to sell everything you have in one shot. I think the better solution is reduce the value of goods, especially the lower tier goods. Prices should increase along an exponential curve, with very small increases on the bottom selection of qualities/tiers, and a much more noticeable increase at the top end.

It would certainly address several issues, such as a merchant's money supply, as well as having 'too much gold and nothing to spend it on.' Would actually make the first half of the game a bit more challenging. Plus, adding in more money sinks.

There's a bug with the merchant in Riverwood. If you have Speechcraft maxed out and give him 500 gold his barter gold will max out at 11750. He becomes the richest trader in Skyrim. He can buy virtually any item except God items you make with smithing/enchanting. (This gold will reset every 3 in game days. He will always have 11750 Gold to spend).

Skyrim's money problems are deeper than Merchant gold I think. I agree it's too easy for the player to aquire gold, from the value of items to the absurd quest rewards. "Oh, so and so had you deliver a letter to me? I suppose you'll want something for your trouble. Here's 500 gold coins LOL!!!" That's like tipping the postman a grand every time he delivers the mail.

Training is where all the money goes and don't you dare say "You can just steal it back!" because no matter how high your pick pocket skill or how much fortify pickpocket items you are using, you always have a 0% chance to pickpocket anything more than 2k gold =P.

Training my restoration (level 70) costs me roughly 2100G per session. That's 10k gold for 5 sessions O.o

Eh, a simple thing you can do is just go up the Speech Perk Tree and get the investor perk that gives you the option of making merchants carry more gold.

Or, if you're feeling a little cheaty lookup the Perk ID for the Investor Speech Perk and give it to yourself.

The investor perk is bugged. Not all merchants get an additional 1000 Gold to spend. For instance, the innkeeper in Riverwood doesn't get it.

How many businesses do you know of that actually keep enough money on hand to match their stock value? That's right, none. Logically they spent their money on their new stock so that you will hopefully buy it. If you buy that staff worth 2k gold, then guess what, they now have 2k more gold, or if you dont sell anything to them, they will "spend" that money on new stock. It makes perfectly logical sense.

I am level 26 and have NEVER had issues with merchants and money.

That isn't applicable at all, modern shops generally only sell and don't buy. Go to a pawn shop and they will generally have enough funds to cover more than the value of their stock.

They don't have enough, or the items sell for too much whichever way you want to look at it.

After getting the 100k achievement, I've just stopped looting unless its for quests or other uniques for my horde.

Um. A merchant that sells garage sale quality items is only going to have a small amount of money on hand. One that deals in high quality, top end goods is going to have a significantly larger amount of money on hand. Go to a flea market and try to sell some used movies. They can't buy that much from you. Go to a jewelry store and sell some gold. They have a LOT more money on hand. Nowhere did I say anything whatsoever about having money on hand to match their stock value.

I think Living Economy did a pretty good job of addressing these types of problems in Oblivion, depending on which functions you used, that is. Perhaps a Skyrim version would be a good idea. The merchants from Tamriel Travellers were also helpful for this as they gave you more venues to offload goods without feeling like you were cheating... IE console commands.
