I dislike how they changed the lore around it, as well. Going from Vvardenfell volcanic glass to regular malachite, which has nothing to do with glass and is, in reality, more fragile than volcanic glass (a.k.a. obsidian).
They should've changed the name and premise behind it. Glass in Morrowind was new to TES. It was really cool finding a whole new style of armor that you hadn't experienced before. They really didn't need to carry it over to other games like that, except maybe as a rarer material. But still, they could've kept the concept the same. In Skyrim is should be different in both name and concept (just my opinion anyway). And what about stalhrim? Where'd that go? I thought that was specifically Nordic. We saw it in Solstheim through the Bloodmoon expansion, but then it vanished.
EDIT: Sorry to the OP. Actually there will most likely not only be variants of new armor, but retextures and even new meshes for a lot of stuff. People all have their own ideas, and its the ones with access to nice modelling software that usually give us the cool stuff.
