Going back to normal theme on forums

How do I switch back to the normal mode on the forums from a mobile phone while in the mobile version of the forums?

*changes to mobile theme*

looks like there is a button titled "change theme at the bottom of the screen, centered. Click it and a drop down menu appears. Change it to the theme you desire and hit the "go" button.

If you don't see it, it's probably a bug. You can log in and change it on a desktop browser.

*grumbles because I had to type this twice because I did the above while typing this up...*

Elegance is still the best theme

Uhg, the new wub emoticon is much uglier than the older one. *more grumbling*

That's the problem... there is no button. I'll try to change it using a computer.

Edit: Not sure how I would do that, so... *idea* I think deleting my cookies will help.

Yeah, you'll need to change it on a computer then. I'd also post it as a bug in the bug thread (floating around somewhere)

Only if you aren't logged in. Your skin selection is saved server-side for your log in. Only non-logged in is the skin selection saved by a cookie (guestSkinChoice)

Are you sure? My skin on my laptop is the default, but on my phone it's still mobile. I'm logged in on both. I think I might have changed the skin before I logged in though.

Whenever I log in on a different computer, it'll load Elegance (which isn't normally even selectable). Maybe it detects you are using a smartphone and forces the mobile theme? Have you tried changing your user agent to use a desktop string? (if you tell me what browser you are using, I can tell you how to do this)

Android: http://lifehacker.com/5547037/change-the-user-agent-on-an-android-phone

iPhone: No default way to do it. You will need to use a third party browser with the feature (Opera among others) or jailbreak your phone.

WIndows Phone 7: Seems to be the same as iPhone

Elegance? :o

When I first visited the forums on my phone, it was the Warrior theme until I changed it to mobile (by pressing the button at the bottom). I have not tried changing my user agent to use a desktop string. I'm using Firefox on my computer and the Maxthon mobile browser on my phone.

Also:Maxthon? That horrible browser is still kicking around? Launch the default Android browser, change the user agent string (described in my post), visit and log into the forums and see if the mobile skin still appears

Oh. I like Warrior the best. Because... I am a warrior. :drag: The Dragon Warrior.

Also, I like Maxthon... sort of. The fullscreen thing is nice. And T-Mobile put a bunch of junk bookmarks that can not be removed on my browser's favorites. I'll just use the default browser then, I guess. I just wish I could use Firefox, but I have an Android 1.6 with 600Mhz.

Fixed it.

surely if that's your phone, it's old and out of warranty. Why not root and flash a custom rom on there to get firefox? (assuming you have at least 512 RAM which apparently is what Mozilla recommends for Android)

I've tried a temporary root before, and it made my phone all slow when I clicked the home button. Oh, and I only have 157MB RAM (I think).

By temporary root I assume you mean a tethered root? That's probably due to reliance on adb. A real root simply involves adding a few files that will allow superuser access. Performance shouldn't change by that, and by rooting you may be able to overclock your phone and improve performance as well as install custom, optimized roms.

A tethered root? I'm not sure. On Z4Root, it gave me an option of a "temporary root" which remained until I rebooted my phone. Do you think Firefox will work smoothly (or at least not super slow, my default browser is slow enough) with 157MB of RAM?

A tethered root is any root that requires you be connected (tethered) to a computer.

I'd scoff it off as a problem with a temporary root as there really should be no performance impact of rooting since it's just swapping out some files. It's no different than swapping out a windows file for a modified one (such as those that allow installing custom themes)

As to the RAM question: Not from what I read. 384 MB seems to be realistically the minimum for smooth performance.

Alright, I don't think I'll root my phone just yet. The phone I have right now kind of svcks and I don't think it's worth the trouble of rooting and all of that (it's a Garmin ASUS).
