I'm going to QQ for a bit.

Post » Wed May 22, 2013 9:14 am

I was hoping to play a glass cannon mage type. I was thinking I would have less hp then most players because I would need to put a good percent of my points into my mana pool. I would wear cloth, so I would have less armor. I was cool with that because I wanted the damage output to be higher than a fighter type or archer/rogue type.

I could be wrong, because this is just all on paper, but the dps for a mage seems about equal with the other two classic types. I even noticed that the bow has a 40 range on an attack. The furthest a mage can cast is 28.

So, it seems I am not as thrilled to play a mage as I once was. Again, it is WAY too early to cry foul, but it just made me a little sad when I read the armor and weapon and class skill trees.

I know you can mix and match and bla bla bla. I know anyone can be anything. I just feel the "pure" mage is getting the shaft a little.

/QQ off.

Sorry, I'm drunk and a bit tired.

Good night.

No, the bow doesnt have 40 range on attack, it has one ability with long cast time and significant stamina cost, that has 40m range

I agree with you, that it is WAY too early to cry

To answer your question on the bow attack. Yes it's 40m long, it's called Snipe so it should be a bit longer, but if you looked it have a high cost of stamina. An archer wouldn't be able to spam Snipe the whole fight to kill someone, because they would run out of stamina before they would even be able to.

Also the whole glass cannon thing, I don't see why you wouldn't be a glass cannon if you wore light armor. It gives you no boosts to health and of course the armor rating on it is going to be significantly lower than heavy armor. So it won't be hard to be a glass cannon mage if you only wear light armor to make your spells stronger.

I wanna be a pure mage too :<, whether a glass cannon or a supportive (not healer) type of mage, we'll see. Btw where did you find all those armor trees?

Yeah its just Snipe, and honestly the cast time and cost seem fine to me. You won't be spam Sniped from a distance, seems more like an opener/chaser ability, or to reward good kiting ability. The other bow attacks were on par with sorc spells I believe.

Other than that I don't see what you mean, I'm also gonna be pure caster glass cannon kitikstic funtime, I think we'll be ok. Kite builds usually are harder and funner to play.

As I looked at the thread again, I don't see where you thought you couldn't be a glass cannon mage. If you look at the heavy armor tree the perks give you % damage reduction when you have 5+ pieces of gear and get % health regen for each piece of heavy armor you get. Light armor you get % magicka regen, % spell crit, and % spell damage. To me that all says I'm going to be a glass cannon.

Ah right. Well dps-wise mages might not be better than other classes but this list is rather encouraging since light armor seems like a way to go for a purest of the purest mages. At least we (hopefully) won't be seeing pervasive numbers of heavy armor wearing mages.

I think we will see a lot of heavy armor mages. Yes they might be a bit harder to kill, but you also have to realize that they won't have the same amount of magicka and spell damage as someone who went pure glass cannon. I think heavy armored mages will be more reliant on spells that are defensive and on their basic/power attacks.

Actually, I'm alot more concerned that there's a 28 stamina, 28m range 3 second stun shot, lol.

Beta is beta though. I hope they find a way to make ability costs balanced, because having charges and stuns on low cost and no cooldown would be brutal. Wonder if they're going for percentage costs or flat costs.

He's crying because he wants to be a glass cannon not a same dps as any other spec that can wear armor that's stronger than armor that doesn't protect very well.

I don't have a problem with heavy armor mages as long as that's not the only way to play a mage and as long as it has certain drawbacks. See Skyrim for example, yes it was a single player game, but imagine if that sort of system was implemented into ESO. Everyone mage would wear plate because you don't lose anything for not wearing it. That's what I was afraid of.

There are penalties in the game, it's called not getting the passives of not wearing that particular armor. So if you are a mage that wants to wear heavy armor to survive a bit more, you will miss out on the magicka regen that will allow you to shoot off more spells, you will lose the % damage boost you get also. So there are penalties in the game, just shown in a different way.

Ok and where did I say anything but that he can be a glass cannon. I pointed out in some of my posts, in this very thread, that he can be a glass cannon. Compare the light armor passives to any of the other two, and include armor rating between them all, and you will be a glass cannon.

Why are some people so confused about this?

@leperchans Yes that's the way I understood it too and I'm just saying I'm happy it's not otherwise.

Can't help but notice that abilities like the heavy armor damage reduction active skill have no armor worn requirement. Might be feasible to say you can currently unlock them and use the abilities w/o wearing the armor.

edit: example would be, wearing light armor but training heavy armor in your spare time just to have the damage reduction ability

In MMORPG genre, the launch is merely a start and things are tweaked from there. I suppose this is exact reason why we didnt see the skill lines officially, premature panic.

i am fully aware of how mmo's evolve in time, i am also aware that if they have a horrible launch its pretty much a death sentence. we had much complaining about lack of end game pve and faction locks and the devs took notice on both. take all that complaining away and we are left locked out and with nothing to do end game

Then you should be as well aware how this sounds. "Booooo, bows got one skill with 40m range so I want that range for my skills too!"

I dont think this qualify

I like pew pew betther than QQ.. a little early to QQ over a game in closed beta, and making assumptions, off of theories, that may or may not even be in game at launch, I can understand maybe no liking the idea, but until you get in game and play it you really just don't know.. :)

If you wear heavy armour in Skyrim or any armour your magicka regen is reduced drastically. You need to place magicka regen effects on the armour via enchanting for it to be any good for a pure mage character. I played through Skyrim as a Pure Mage wearing only cloth and robes. It was difficult but the power of my spells and the amount I could throw out in a short time was very good due to my enchantments. on magicka regen.
