i'm going to start a character in Oblivion, become a vampire

Post » Thu Nov 08, 2012 2:01 am

i Just bought Oblivion again for this sole purpose. Has anyone ever attempted this before? Normally, i don't like to role-paly as a vampire, but seeing how this is the only logical way to suspend disbelief that one character can survive from ES IV to ES V, then i'm going to give it a shot. One thing i need to do however, is become a vampire ASAP when i leave Helgon, so can you guys name a few caves infested with vamps cause thats the first places i'm going. I haven't worked out a whole back story for my character yet but i'm thinking he'll be a nord and thats his motivation for returning to Skyrim or he'll be in the DB searching for the Night mother and the last known remnant of the DB. However, if i go this route with him then he doesn't even need to be a Nord. However, seeing how its been 200 yrs its not like he's going back to skyrim for family lol. Anyway, i'm still brainstorming ideas but you get the jist of what i'm attempting.

I will say, play Oblivion again is hard to get used after spending so much time in Skyrim but i'll overcome Oblivion outdatedness cause its still a great game. I think if i can get my characters story right then this will be a great back to back run roleplaying endeavor. Has anyone ever attempted this? And for the record, i play on consoles so everything is V. When i get a computer that can play high profile games this will be much more interesting for several reasons.

Barren cave which is east of the Imperial city has quite a few vampires in it but why start with Oblivion? why not Morrowind? or if you really wanna go all the way start with Daggerfall? Sounds like a cool idea, however if you don't wanna be a vampire why not play an Elf? I'm not really sure of their lifespan but I think it's a few hundred, I could be very wrong though.

There are a couple of mods that will infect you with vampirism in Helgen or right outside of it. The one I remember using for my vamp character had it an Embershard mine outside of Riverwood...

Why not just play a Dunmer or Altmer - they live a long time. That way you don't have to deal with getting beat up by the Uglification Bat when you turn into a vampire in Oblivion.

To my everlasting regret i never got into morrowind. I remember getting it when it first came out on Xbox but i was a different kinda of gamer back then. I didn't play games as much as i do now and it was hard for me to finish quest back then so i just gave it up. I did try and play morrowind again on a really weak computer so i couldnt use mods. If i do that i will need to mod it all up with the mods that make it look up to date so if i do that i'll need my computer first. Also, i did try daggerfall and sadly i'm not that hardcoe of a gamer to go back and play those games. I'd have to be trapped on a desert island with a computer, a power source and the only game i could possible play is that, then i'd do it. I'd probably really like it lol.

Elves are not a bad idea, but the idea of being immortal in the game is more appealing roleplay wise for me. However, thats a good idea for people who want to play as a non vampire and do the same thing i'm doing lol.

There is a mod on the Steam Workshop that allows you to play as Sheogorath. (Shivering Isles - Hero of Kvatch could of returned to Nirn)

This is what I would do. Being a vampire in Oblivion is not only a complete lackluster experience, it completely changes your face.

Maybe that's his reason for crossing the border into Skyrim - he's heard there's a face changer in Riften. He could also start the game with a hideous face in character creation. A good place to get vampirism early on is Morthal off Laelette.

Cool idea OP.

There are alternative start mods out there, check the Workshop/Nexus for any that start you as a vampire - chances are there is one.

Arthmoor's Live Another Life gives you that option. Starts you in a small den under Mara's Eye Pond.

Course, he may not play on PC.

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Bloodlet_Throne lies southwest of Helgen and contains Vampires.

Good luck with your Oblivion- and Skyrim-spanning adventure.

This is a cool idea.

Have you downloaded Dawnguard? If yes, you probably won't have any trouble quickly becoming a vampire in Skyrim...they're everywhere, tearing up towns & such...

I've just recently done something similar but with my Dunmer Nerevarine from Morrowind instead.

The biggest issue for me has been overcoming the "Why is my once godly character now practically useless in comparison?" from a roleplay perspective. I ended up with the following solution; after the events of Morrowind, it's said that the Nerevarine sailed off to Akavir to do Vivec knows what. So I'm angling that something happened to Ineri Telvanni in Akavir that resulted in a pretty significant memory loss, this explains why he shows up in Skyrim and appears to be a relatively weak individual.

Ineri knows that he is the Nerevarine but doesn't really remember those events (or what happened in Akavir) - after arriving in Blacklight, he trekked to Skyrim via the Dunmeth pass as he didn't really want to risk being discovered. Imagine the disappointment of the Dunmeri folk who have suffered so much since the events of Morrowind that one of their legends is, currently at least, rather unimpressive to put it kindly. It also gives me an RP reason to use the standing stones near Riverwind, essentially representing that his skills and knowledge are coming back to him (which would be a faster approach to someone learning from scratch).
