Gold Sellers & Bots ?

Post » Thu Jan 23, 2014 12:20 am

In many mmorpgs, bots and gold sellers dominated the chat windows. I checked the forums or DEV topics about that but couldn't find anything. These gold sellers and bots killed many games and economies in mmorpgs. I wonder how they are gonno stop em or what kind of preparations TESO DEVs are taking about this subject. Any idea or information guys ?

When a dev spots a botter he press the key labled red dragon and hannibal lecter gives them a vist. But seriously the guild store are supposed to manage the botters.

I Think it will be even hard to stop them since they plan on allowing mods/addons (macros), which makes botting possible.

There should be some restrictions about /yell,/zone etc.. Bots are dmn annoying for me. I would definately kill every bot i see :P or I wish I could kill.

In SWG a player could become warrant officer and get the command to /silance yeller bots. It was sometimes quite handy

I alos hate all kind of afk/automated modded playing. Should be at keyboard playing only without any macros/mods/addons.

Its a P2P MMO, so the amount is already reduced alot, but still there will be some, but normally they are banned pretty fast.

They're allowing UI mods.

Those are not macros. They are a completely different category of thing.

They do not make botting possible ><

You seem determined to spread disinformation about this!

However, it is perfectly true that it will be hard to stop the bots and the gold sellers. Even with a limited economy, there are ways of transferring in-game items/gold. ZoS will I'm sure use the same techniques all MMOs use, with probably the same rate of success :P

For instance swtor, doesnt have any addons/mods and doesnt allow macroing. And suprise - theres NO bots.

SWG allowed macros, but not mods/addons = there were loads of bots/yellers.

What you Think will happen if you allow mods/addons/macros? A HUGE mess.

No global AH may make it a little harder for bots and gold sellers to make money but they're a resourceful bunch so I'm sure they'll find some way to ruin the game for us somehow.

U cant know for sure if those ones in the general chatline are afk botters. It could be at-keyboard ppl re-sending textmessages. Its not botting.

But there sure isnt any afk yellers on the streets.

SWTOR has and has had a lot of bots.

Surprise surprise supply and demand is also in video games. The more people that play the more bots there are to meet demands.

Aranthil... this is completely off topic for this thread, and you are making the same factual and rhetorical errors in thread after thread after thread. All this accomplishes is to display your lack of understanding of the technical aspects, but since it also confuses anybody else who doesn't feel confident about the technical aspects, it does a real disservice to the community in terms of having an informed discussion.

ZoS is allowing Lua addons which will be able to affect the APPEARANCE of the UI ONLY. That is all they can possibly do. No matter how malicious or ingenious somebody is, they can't do anything else.

Botters use third party programs which are NOT sanctioned or supported by game devs; so dev supported systems have nothing to do with bots. Having add-ons doesn't enable bots; not having them doesn't prevent bots.

Bots bypass the client to send commands directly to the server. Devs combat bots by checking the integrity of the data the server gets, and by searching for known bot software on the player's computer. But it's a constant battle.

I realize these facts aren't going to convince Aranthil, but I provide them in case s/he's succeeded in fooling anybody else

Oh, okay. I'm sure people are just resending messages for bots about buying gold and that makes it legal. I was so totally wrong, I almost thought that buying gold and advertising paying real money for in game items was against the terms of use. Oh, darn.

And there are bots that kill people.

Back on topic - ESO inevitably will have bots, less so than free to play games but they'll be there regardless.

The guild store system will make it a bit harder for them to do business, so it's just up to the discretion of players to report them.

Remember, if nobody was buying gold or botting services, they wouldn't be there, so some people are using them.

modding UI still can give u additional info that others dont get. its unbalancing the game and breaches security.

The more u allow in player meddling with the game the more of these prolems youll get. SWG had huge problems since they allowed macros due to lazy player base that claimed to get access to create macros for stuff. It was totally unneccessary and just pure laziness or in order to make quickmacros for combat (a kind of exploit).

SWTOR doesnt have those big probs, but some recent preobs with yellers in general chat Selling gold and other stuff.

U cant have maximum freedom AND maximum security and balance at the same time.

And if I have to prioritize fo those ill go for security and balance.

And Im so damn tired of seeing games go wasted since some (few, but very vocal players) are so lazy or keen on exploiting and cheating thier way thru all games they come to.

Botters gonna bot

Does not matter what you throw in their way, I have seen SWTOR PVP matches end in 15 seconds flat from botters and it was a real concern for a while

I dont know a single MMO game that doesnt have bots and rmts.

Actually i do know one: Planetside 2, and thats because it doesnt even have a currency you can exchange.

I guess we will just have to deal with it :yuck:

Macroing is extremely easy with 3rd party software (a good mouse can do it) so not allowing a macro system wont really help.

Well, people are taking the topic to a different way. What i wanna learn is " Mostly botters and gold sellers are damaging the game economy by gathering crafting material mines, woods etc. and selling em. This is how they control the economy of the game cause a caual or hardcoe player can not race with an afk bot. Anyway, I hope TESO have something on their mind to stop bots and gold sellers.

Second thing is, " Spams in the chat boxes."

I think you got your answer :) Based on experiences with other MMOs, ZoS will fight this but sometimes the botters will get ahead on the tech curve. However, the fact that ESO does not have a server-wide economy limits the amount of damage that can be done relative to other games.

And on chat box spam, ditto: ZoS will reduce it by active monitoring/banning, but it will happen anyway :P
