((*update* Don't mind the title or some data, as it was my original issue, Below are some possible fixes or crash avoidance tactics, be sure to refresh the page as I'm occupying it, as I may update my posts as I test.))
Couldn't find a similar Issue, posting myself.
In short, every time I leave Gomorrah the game crashes/freezes
Unfortunetly the only other save I have available is inside.

Female Character - level 13 (5,6,5,5,7,8,6) (15,52,17,25,52,36,15,44,57,50,56,19,18)
Was running game on HD, after a few exit attempts I uninstalled it to see if it would work.
Steps to reproduce (if possible, as I'm not willing to try because It'd take me hours, and I don't have that time to waist currently
This is everything I did since I walked into that sector
- Walked into the strip
- Talked to that robot guy, got the "talk to mr house" mission
- figured I wanted to look around first before I got into a mission
- Killed the guy that owed the 'twins' money
- walked into Gomorrah (had no missions for this area)
- guy asked for my weapons, gave them up except my 'holdout' one.
- looked around, went to the court yard, talked & 'accompanied' the girl out there.
- Checked out the rest of the area
- bought a few chips played a few games, won 3k
- saved over my only 'emergency' save. (usually do this about once an hour just in case something happens)
- tried to earn a little more (reverted to save)
- turned in chips
- walked out front door (tried both left and right)
-- When I walked out, I saw I was receiving my weapons back, and could hear it (and the music still playing)
--*revised* Never made it outside though, It would crash between the load screen and outside. It seemed to crash surring the time it would autosave (since it would get corrupted at that time) I also tried this with autosaving off

For two hours last night I tried just about every hardware/software/game attempt to exit Gomorrah without crashing, unsuccessfully, If I do figure it out, I'll post it. As cruel as this may sound, I REALLY hope somone else has this issue, so 1) I know its not my XBox (*updated* tried it on a friends, same issue) and 2) I know its an issue that will be fixed in the near future so I can continue playing.

When they finally do get around to patching this, whats going to happen to those that don't have internet (who doesn't these days though)? These kinda things should always have back door ways users can fix, or something.

I can't leave Gomorrah, either. It seized up similar to your description, although I did some questing in there. I gave up trying to leave after 21 attempts, freezes and reboots -- I thought the number was poetically appropriate.

Seems like killing McCaffery may be a source of this problem if I've done my research correctly

I saw your post on another post regarding the same issue. I read your problem and the only thing that really matches up is killing the guy that owed the twins money.

Here's my step-by-step:

Entered the Strip. Picked up the quest for Mr. House. Did the quest to speak w/Mr. House.
Left after I was done in Casino 38, then killed the guy for the twins. Left the strip to turn in the quest and get my reward.
Now I'm unable to get into the strip, it just goes to black screen and corrupt the auto save file.

I've been running around doing other quests, etc and I still can't get back into the strip.

holy cow - I just fixed this !

I was getting the same black screen crash when I try to exit Gomorrah every time - I did 3 things not sure which was the key but mostly likely was the no. 1.

1. go to the save game screen in the Xbox dash memory bit area (under system) - go to fallout 3 new vegas - select the autosave (which says corrupt on mine) delete it, but leave the other saves.

2. load game - I dropped all weapons, not sure why, guess it cos you are getting some weapon back into your inventory.

3. put on the hat from the dude you killed outside for the debt quest, if you have it. again unlikely to actually help but its what I did.

leave Gomorrah and it [censored] loaded ok !!!!

NOTE - I had also cleared my cache and reinstalled to the HD but neither had helped so there also unlikely to be a factor.

I just got it to work load as well these were my steps
My save consists of two companions (Boone & ED-E) & a full weaponless (besides my holdout pistol) inventory in the lobby with a wrench... err...

Relased my companions Dropped my inventory & theirs (wore the hat and some quest armor I had as I couldn't drop it) - LOADED
- Reloaded Save
Released Boone Only - Didn't Load
- Reloaded Save
Released ED-E Only - Didn't Load
- Reloaded Save
Released Both - LOADED
- Reloaded Save
Dropped just the NCR Armor off Boone (rumor possible issue) - Didn't Load
- Reloaded Save
Wore the stupid hat - LOADED
- Reloaded Save
Wore hat, Exited, Took off hat, Exited the Strip, Turned hat in, Went back to Strip - Strip Didn't Load. Was aiming for the Casino, but this just as bad.
- Reloaded Save
Wore hat, Exited casino, took off hat, exited strip, re-entered strip - Strip Didn't Load

- Made a New save on the strip (No hat, 2 companions, full inventory)
Exited Strip, released Companions, Re-entered Strip - Strip Didn't Load
- Reloaded
Exited Strip, put on hat, re-entered strip - STRIP LOADED

My anolysis so far says it could be companions, equipment, the hat mission or strip in general.

*So McCaffery's hat seems to be an essential key to be able to access the strip without crashing for the time being, so hold onto your hats people, till we get a patch.

Will Edit this as completed, check back... Why aren't I getting paid to beta and isolate problems like this? Though I won't say I dislike problem solving.

OK - done some more testing - for me its the corrupted saves I think - once it crashes I need to delete the autosave as I mentioned before and I can play some more until it happens again - mostly its entering/leaving the strip that crashes so I save it to a manual save slot before each exit - its a real pain but I can still play while a patch is sorted.

Interesting about that hat mission also being a factor

During my testing I had all auto-saving turned off though.

yeah your right - handed in the debt quest and did one of the quests for the tops casino theater - now I cannot get back into the strip. No matter what I do with save games or items. I have no companions with me. Stuck again. I will have to reload back to when I had that hat and retest,

I don't think it has anything to do with the saves, It just seems like the strip in general, If that hat is being worn, the strip is happy.
I now dub McCaffery's hat, the Magic Hat XD

I don't have my hat, as I was forced to turn it in for the quest and didn't think anything of it and saved before re-entering the strip...

I have no weapons/armor equipped, unable to get into the Strip.
No companions/weps/armor - Unable to get into Strip.
Deleted my auto-save file - Unable to get into the strip and a new auto-save is open and corrupted.
Deleted DLC and auto-save file - Unable to get into the strip.


Seems that without the hat you either start over or wait for a patch.


Oh, I also robbed/killed/looted the entire Casino owned by the Twins attempting to find the hat. It's lost forever, at least in this game.

Lol, I slottered everyone in Gomorrah when I first had this problem, even tried to break the house so they'd kick me out. I guess the nice thing now is I have an extra few thousand caps to play with when it does get patched.

I remember the option being to Kill him or to split what he owed and you also get his hat. So that Hat would still come into play, I'm assuming it's the same issue, but I don't plan on starting a new game until the patch comes out. Also, I just found a sewer outside of the town on the north road, I'm going to be looking around to see if there's possibly another entrance. Maybe a slick was to get in, without buying the credit check or fake passport. Will update if there is any luck.

I had Boone as a companion, and as soon as I got ED-E as one, I tried entering Goodsprings, and the game froze. Sounds like it could be some companion issues, who knows.

Well, I'm back to the game, been wearing McCaffery's hat since I got it, and haven't had any issues going in or out of the strip. This is the one and only biggest problem I've had. All in all it could be a variety of things. Lets hope to fixin. But as for the crashing on the strip, Wear that hat and you wont have a problem

LOL. So I was still locked out of the strip. I was around killing and found an Old Cowboy Hat. When I put it on, I noticed it looked exactly like Mcafferty's Hat, with the feather. So I said what the hell. Equipped the hat and I can now get into the strip..

Hard to believe that a simple hat will fix a major issue. Oh well. If you do turn in the quest hat, make sure you have an old cowboy hat as back-up. I'm just glad I didn't have to start all over.

OMG, funny stuff, good to hear there's another way w/o needing his hat specifically. Keep this updated though if there are other bypasses or other issues similar to this. Thanks!

So wait, I have to wear a hat everytime I do stuff in the strip? Even entering the first time? I guess I can live with that till a patch comes. I still haven't gotten in yet.

Yeah I figured it had something to due with his hat. Come to mention it the game was running better for me when I was wearing a cowboy hat with +1 perception, weird. Anyway, if just a standard cowboy hat works where can I get one?

It's not any hat, it's the one that looks like McCafferty's hat. Brown hat with a feather in it.

The hat that I'm wearing that allowed me back into without crashing is Old Cowboy Hat.

Where can I get one of those, do you know off the top of your head? No pun intended.

Just blasted Easy Pete in the head and took his Cattleman Cowboy Hat, and loaded back into the strip and it froze.

Hmm. I dunno guys, I think there is a bit of over-anolyzing going on. I get five or six black-screen lock ups when entering the Strip from the North Vegas gate or the Lucky 38, too. I think it's the Strip, personally.

Mines in a constant lockup to the Strip. I cannot enter it whatsoever. And it happened right after the Caleb Mcgafferty hat quest so I believe it does have to do with that hat.
