Good And Questionable Choices Thread

Post » Mon Nov 12, 2012 5:17 am

Okay this a thread to discuss what you think are good choices in ESO and what you think are more questionable in a attempt to show what you think needs work and what looks good. If you have any questions go look at the sticked FAQ.

Try to post like this for ease of look, although feel free to add reasoning.

Good choices:

Questionable Choices:

Good: limited hot bar.

?: MEGASERVER could end up fine. but we need more info. potential to make grouping with friends difficult. could lead to a lack of community.
?: Faction Locking Races i understand why they did it. but i think they could have come up with something better. like letting us choose any faction as any race.
?: Zone Lock why not make a huge open seamless world for us to explore?

I agree with zone lock being bad but faction locking races is a norm for mmos and I think it helps the story. It might be confusing being a dunmer then seeing another dunmer and thinking he is on your side but then he kills you when he sees you.

Good choices: Skyrim bounty system implemented in ESO law & order in Tamriel or prison, hehe.
Questionable Choices: The quest system, well, it's boring and grindy EQ style get rid of it completely is my opinion, and instead reward the players with more exploration experience bonuses with a skill system similar to Skyrim/Oblivion -
you get better in skills when you use it. :)

first off i didnt say those things were bad. it's a good and questionable game.

if i see a dunmer and he attacks me obviously he's not my side. there is nothing confusing about that.

Because with one megaserver and the flood of people at launch, one seamless world would knock off the server, blow up the building, and probably even the city where building actualy stands. Unrealizeable.

I mean if you see him and he dosen't see you and you ignore him he could attack you straight away like in WoW when you are a Pandaran(THEY HAVE BEEN IN THE LORE SINCE WARCRAFT 3 so no they didn't ruin WoW)and you see another you would think he/she is on your side but they see you and there not and kill you that is really annoying on PvP servers in WoW.

Races are tied up through whole TES lore. I think locking races is very clever idea.

Dont forget that majority of MMO players are [censored] who wants everything eaier, clearer (like WoW). Even road to Dungeon can confuse them, so they invented Dungeon Finder to just teleport in.

Good Choices: What appears to be a good combat system, Exploration.

Questionable Choices: Locking off zones based on faction (Seriously you lock of two thirds of your game), Not bringing this to consoles (Please don't hate me for this one, I have my reasons) (;

no it's not. other mmo's have it done it. Rift, WoW, EQ, im sure there are others as well. im not asking for a million people on the same map. im just asking for no loading screens and the ability to explore all of tamriel. the megaserver pockets would still hold the same amount.

I'm not sure but I think putting an MMO on a console would be hard and even if it wasnt hard it wouldn't be updated as much as PC as it is cheaper to update on a PC than on say an Xbox 360.

Good : Exploration, combat system

Questionable : Locked zones. Why would you lock 2/3 of your game world ?!

I think I know why they have Faction Locked Zones so everyone has to play every faction/race to get to see all the zones which means none of the faction content is wasted!

Assuming that this Megaserver tech can also handle cross platform stuff (Which is a point we don't know) then you point would be moot. If it could we could play with all the PC people and get updates the same as everyone else. The only issue would be controls, and assuming that the game works similar to Skyrin that could be mapped for such.

But then, such a idcea would hinge entirely on the fact of Megaserver being able to handle cross platforms. I think it MAY happen and have that in design, since to cut off their largest playerbase of the ES series would be folly.

However, I will admit the only reason that I think this is because on the Angry Joe show Interview at E3 they said they would not comment on Multiplatform at this time. If it wasn't they should have denied it outright. My guess is it won't be for launch but they will work on adapting it to Xbox using megaserver tech.

However I may be wrong. (:

Good choice: Megaserver, no more empty zones, no more long queues, easy to find guilds you like, low population isnt an issue, filters like age/country/solo/group only/guild only = pure win.
Questionable: Dont have really, this is like most triple A MMORPGs. Yeah, its kinda odd they just followed the trend, instead copycat game, no balls to make own game I suppose.

The combat might be twitchy meaning PC players would do better than Xbox because with a mouse you can get a slight bit more precision and can move a slight bit faster like that event when they tried Quake cross-platform and the Xbox got destroyed because the mouse was better to use but this isnt Quake so I don't know.

Isn't Quake a FPS? Because if so Speed is less important in, say Sword Fighting (Where Close range is key), and spells fire slower the bullets so it would balence out to a degree. You could make a argument for bows but even they are slower projectiles.

Yeah TES:O is/can be an FPS too and the combat is in real time.

Projectiles are still slower however. They would still have the precision factor but the speed factor is taken out, or at least delayed enough to give a good chance. And what use is a good spell if you have a good fireproof armour? Or if you foe cannot see you in the first place due to sneaking?

My point is, while you DO have a point in the difference between PC and Console, TESO is still a slightly slower game and has more options to combat that issue then a FPS does.

But we get off topic a bit. I would be more then happy to discuss this in some kind of Console port Thread or something.
