Good BSA packerunpacker (that's not Archive.exe)

Post » Tue Nov 20, 2012 12:21 pm

I need one to unpack my .bsa files to get at the source scripts; I would just use Archive.exe to get at the files by re-downloading them and keeping the .bsl file, but I have Oblivion .bsa files to open, too, which obviously don't have .bsl files.

I still use good ol' NV FOMM to unpack bsa's, and Archive.exe to pack them.

I used to use OBMM, but I lost it when my laptop died; I'd rather not install it again, since Bash does exactly the same thing.

http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/1395 It only unpacks, but it works rather well for Skyrim files and presumably others too.

There's also BSAOpt, which can do packing and unpacking, but I've never been able to get the hang of how to use it.

Oh, does anyone know if the updated CK accepts SEQs as valid files using the CK's archive menu? I always found that one really convenient since it automatically gathers up all scripts and script fragments, and Archive.exe is a little clumsy to use repeatedly...

No idea, but the CK's gathering routines are not reliable.

I know they don't fetch things like facegen, and I haven't done anything requiring new meshes, but it seems to catch all scripts -- even alias scripts, though it used not to.

I recommend if your mod is bigger than just a few minor files, just using Archive.exe and doing it externally. It's much much faster.

'Cept that most of my stuff is really tiny; mainly scripts.

Most superfluous inclusion was an SEQ for a start-game enabled quest that did nothing except hold an actor as reserved.

I use this. It's very good for both packing and unpacking, although the interface can be somewhat counter-intuitive.
