Good GameCube and PS1 Games

Post » Thu Aug 15, 2013 4:23 pm

So, this weekend I plan to go to a local flea market. I was wondering what kind of good GameCube/PS1 games I should keep an eye out for while there. I typically like action/adventure RPGs/JRPGs, and games that will awaken the obsessive collector beast that sleeps inside my belly.

I already plan to get The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker (I think it's on GameCube; I know there's a kind of LoZ collection for GameCube) for GameCube and the "classics" for PS1 (i.e. Spyro, Crash Bandicoot, etc.), as well as various other JRPGs that some of you lovely forumites recommended me a while ago (never did get those, regrettably. I plan to, though. :)).

As the above paragraph has demonstrated, I need GameCube recommendations more than PS1 recommendations. Thanks for your recommendations. :)

Resident Evil 4. No GameCube collection is complete without it. Get Killer7 too.

Wait on Wind Waker unless you find it cheap. The price on the Gamecube version has jumped....again. If you plan on a Wii U one day, they are releasing a HD remake of it for half the price of what it goes for on Amazon

Gamecube-

Army Men: RTS (I liked it)

Pikmin (pain in the ass, but fun)

Tales of Symphonia (JRPG and long as hell)

Twilight Princess (not cheap either)

Megaman X Collection (wonderful collection)

Resident Evil Remake or Resident Evil 0. (Some of the best graphics ever for the Gamcube.)

Oh, and Metroid Prime. Outstanding game

I never had too many games for the Cube that I'd consider great beyond the obvious big name titles like Soul Calibur II, MGS Twin Snakes, Ocarina of Time, Perfect Dark, Mario, SSBM, Resident Evil 4, Resident Evil 1 remake and Resident Evil 0.

The Playstation had many, many, many, many amazing and legendary games such as the original MGS, Syphon Filter, Evil Dead, Blood Omen, Soul Reaver, Spyro, Resident Evil 1, 2, and 3, Medal of Honor - Finest Hour, Medal of Honor - Underground, Nectaris Military Madness, Final Fantasy 7, 8, and 9, and much more. Heck, there was even a C&C and C&C Red Alert port for that system.

Online purchase is incredibly expensive. It's why I've waited for the flea market in the first place.

Is Resident Evil something that I should play from the first game to understand the story? Because I hate playing a game out of chronological order (unless it's something like Final Fantasy, where all the games are barely related to one another).

No, RE can be played in any order really. I started with 2, then went to 3, then after a few years played the remake of 1 on the Cube. I haven't played the original PSX version of 1, but would I even want to when there is a remake?

Just remember to check ebay when purchasing as some may actually charge the same or more than ebay :P

Tales of Symphonia might be good too.

there are only 2 Gamecube games I still play, and they are two of my favorite games of all time

1) Skies of Arcadia Legends:

a JRPG made by Sega that has one of the most loyal cult followings in gaming History... finding a working copy can be difficult though, as they go for a rediculous amount of money (A Mint condition copy can go for as much as $200).. it is though, considered one of the best JRPGs out there...

However, we get rumors every few years about them going to port it over to modern consoles... while not likely, you would be better off waiting and see.... Vyse made an Appearance in Sega's Sonic racing game, and a few years ago they did renew their Copyright of the IP, so it may be in the works....

2) Tales of Symphonia:

a great JRPG with an amazing plot, memorable characters, surprising plot twists at every turn, an enjoyable combat system, and one of the BEST Written Villains in gaming History.. while easier to find then SoA, ToS is still extremely hard to get a copy of....

However, in the spring (2014) they are going to be porting it over to the PS3, with added features, bug fixes, more Mystic Artes, and upgraded visuals, along with its sequel.. so I suggest you wait for that release instead... it would be much better...
