There is a severe lack of good default gauntlets or gloves in this game unless you use one-handed or two-handed weapons. If you are a magic user there really isn't any good gauntlets, you have to go with enchanting to get any use out of them.

Mystic tuning gloves are the best for mages IMO but if u don't find mana a problem then they're pretty useless

I agree. I often go barefoot and gloveless. On the other hand, it feels pretty badass that I don't need to wear all that silly looking armor to be powerful, though. Just a circlet, robes, a ring and and a necklace are usually enough, even at level 70 on Master.
