This has great potential to be a very big deal. POWER architecture is pretty awesome, and to have that many powerful companies join together, as well as make it open, allows for it to just get that much stronger.

As long as Windows is around and supporting x86, we might not see that go, but POWER might be more of a contender with this kind of force behind it.

Apple used to use PowerPC (Apple IBM Motorola designed). Cell (PS3) is Power architecture and a failure IMO.

x86 is used for Windows, Apple, and both next-gen consoles... PS4 and XBOX One. Wii-U is still PowerPC based.

Windows will never go Power. I'm still surprised they went ARM, but that's more or less because they were forced to and ARM Windows is so incredibly gimped anyway that it's not even funny.

It'd be cool if they sold it as hobbyist hardware for home linux servers, but I doubt that'll happen.

*sigh* that just makes me wish there were some decent ARM boards with decent expandability. SoC is nice and all, but for real servers where I want multiple SATA and ethernet ports. USB can only get you so far.
