PC - I got used to the UI pretty quick

Post » Wed May 09, 2012 5:35 am

While I understand why so many of my fellow PC gamers are gutted by the UI on Skyrim my personal opinion is that it just takes a little getting used to. The consolitis is obviously there but it's nothing as attrotious as I was led to believe by some early posts. Anyways, just my opinion.

I've only played like 2 hours of the game and my feeling is that this is all I expected it to be. Even tho the game's hardware auto detection recommended me to run the game on medium I went bananas and cranked everything up to ultra. Guess what? The game is running like butter and looks simply amazing. I even went a little bit further and enabled an option locked away in an ini file that makes trees cast shadows on themselves wich can't be activated through the game options. The engine is really well optimized. Mouse acceleration was a problem in the beginning but as soon as I adjusted it in the game settings it's ok now.

The UI is a RPer dream. The hud is pretty much always hidden and things only pop up when you need to see them. I even managed to hide the compass and quest markers through some ini file's tweak.

Skyrim is an amazing world and so far I'm pretty happy I can make part of it.

Thank god there is someone who isn't overly dramatic about a new released game.

Thank you, sir.

Same. It's a bit different from what I've used before, but I'm sure after a couple hours of gameplay, most PC users will be used to it. I can't say I fully like the UI, but it's not bad at all.

There really needs to be one key to back out of menus. Using Escape for some things and Tab for others is annoying.

I got used to it pretty quickly as well and I think it's just fine. This hate is starting to feel more and more like a simple case of fear of change to me.

I gotta say, I like you. And that's pretty rare considering most of the threads I've read today. I'm glad that there are still some beings with a sense of good judgement and rationale here.

Good on you.

That is all.

I think the heart of this issue is these guys are PC gamers, and take pride in that. And seeing a property that was born on the PC end up developing on the console with a console oriented UI just makes them incensed. It's not that bad if you didn't make it an issue of PC gamers being slighted.

ok, it`s not oblivion interface, but it`s ok. one thing I don`t like: I can`t directly mouse click on options. I have to scroll byt arrows (or w,a,s,d, witch is great) but I would have been nice to be able do directly click on option you want. in fact some are clickable some are not.

The UI is enjoyable, it's hardly there. But navigating the menu is not all that much fun.

Well turns out they fixed the UI for us with the new 1.1 patch, i can now use the mouse on everything, menu, magic, items, much better thanks Beth!

Patch notes doesn't say so, but that's the first thing i noticed upon re-launch it works, wow i got a mouse lol

I also love how you can right click or left click weapons and they instantly bind to that button.

The only time you ever use ESC is for the settings menu. Tab is for everything in-game.
