Here's a great mod idea!!

Camera that zooms in on NPCs when they talk to you (as in Oblivion). This is especially important when playing in 3rd person perspective!!

Someone please make this mod!!

Thank you very much.

This is funny, because the reason they did it the way they did in Skyrim is because people complained that the camera zooming in and everything freezing ruined immersion in Morrowind and Oblivion.

That is ridiculous. The camera zooming in on talking NPCs added greatly to the immersion of Oblivion. It made it seem like they were actually talking to you, rather just talking into the air. That was a very bad idea to remove it. We really need a mod that brings it back to Skyrim.

I hated that so much. The only thing I want is for your character to look at the person who is talking to you. At the moment when a conversation begins, your PC just stares off in whatever direction he was facing; you think he'd at least turn his head.

The camera zooming in, oh god, no, please no.

Why would you hate it? That makes no sense. What else do you want to do when someone is talking to you? Take a nap? You are supposed to be paying attention to them, and the zooming in forces you to pay attention. It was one of the great features of Oblivion that added greatly to the immersion. Skyrim needs this feature badly!!

I'm sorry, in real life when you talk to someone do you crane your neck and stare intently at them, not blinking or faltering in your gaze, for the entire conversation? You can pay attention without the obnoxious "time for a close up" effect Oblivion had.

Yeah, but when playing in 3rd person perspective, first of all, you have to hit "F" just to get back into first person perspective (before you press "E" to talk), then you have to point the camera directly at the NPC talking. And even then the camera is not as zoomed on on the face of the NPC talking as it is in Oblivion. All of this is annoying and breaks the immersion factor. I don't understand why anyone would complain about the camera zoom that Oblivion had. It was convenient and added greatly to the immersion factor. Sometimes in Skyrim you don't even know who is talking until it is too late and they are done talking.

It was a very bad idea to remove the camera zoom that Oblivion had. I can't believe the developers did this.

It didn′t help that Oblivion′s NPCs were all ugly as hell either.

What are you even talking about? When you engage in conversation, even in third person mode, the camera becomes limited to a central plane between you and the speaker. You can swivel the camera a bit both directions, but it is centered on the conversation you are having. Aside from that, how difficult is it to tell who is talking? It DISPLAYS THEIR NAME on your screen, how can you miss that? And if anything, I'd say zooming in on the person who is talking and going "HEY YOU, LOOK, LOOK AT THIS, RIGHT HERE, THIS MAN IS TALKING, HEY STUPID" is more akin to your "omg RPGs are being dumbed down" argument than what Skyrim did. I find it much more cinematic and enjoyable to converse with someone in third person and look at our surroundings, what he's doing, where I'm standing, and how I look, than being railroaded into staring at a 3D face.

Just remember guys, with mods it doesn't matter if you want it. He wants it, you don't have to use it.

The mod forums seem to be unnecessarily hostile. I blame it on being so soon after release. Don't use a mod if you don't want to. Just because someone suggested a mod doesn't mean they're MAKING you use it.

Although the OP's comment on how people would rather ignore all the NPC's is a bit much. Some people disliked the Oblivion style of conversation, some people liked it, although not many, I think. While there are mods that are genuinely bad ideas, this is more of a preference thing.

This is true, his reaction to people's comments was not appropriate, but neither was people grilling him about wanting it in the first place.

If he wants it and you don't, move along to another thread about a mod you do want.

Either way is fine with me, either zoomed or not, nothing kills my immersion in a game anyway, because I'm fully aware of the fact that I am playing a game, the entire time I'm playing it.

Heh heh, when I saw this thread on the forum had 2 pages, I knew some trollin' was up. <.<

Anyway - Most of the immersion folks actually disliked the zoom-in method, for a few reasons. One of these reasons wasis that it "locked" you into a conversation like forcibly pressing your face up against a glass window and made to stare at whoever wanted your attention. What if you wanted to RP a mean ******* who just shoved the Adoring Fan out of the way and kept walking? The second reason that I can think of, and by far the most important, is that this method "froze" time. The world would wait until you were done talking; if they found a way to remove this restriction, the zoom-in method would then be a hassel because you would not able to react realistically to things going on around you.

I do second the 'head turning' thing, though. In Oblivion, my character DID stop and look at other NPCs when they came close. In Skyrim, my character is as stoic as can possibly be -- totally oblivious to what's going on around her.

exactly, i hated that part...especially in Oblivion. Although it could be changed in the ini file. I am glad Skyrim does not do this. :)

One thing I wish is that NPCs would somehow know where there are line-of-sight issues...I've talked to doors, pillars, and even a waterfall once because there was a hidden NPC behind it.

I don't know how people can not like the camera zoming in on the action. I mean surely, if you can do whatever you want during a conversation it behaves like in real life.
Especially I don't like that during important events there are no flying camera events, you can still control your character. Surely this is like in real live but when I have the choice between real life style and cinematic style I would always choose cinematic style because, lets face it, real life style is boring. When something important happens ingame, I want a cinematic sequence that focusses on that action and makes sure you will see it.

A good example of this are the finisher moves. I like them and I wish there was something like a guaranteed finisher cinematic when you kill someone with a single ambush (much like the takedowns always play in Deus Ex: HR).
So back to topic: I want the npc's to actually have a talk and face each other. I want the camera focussing in on the action and I want to see my character from the front when he/she talks.

For me cinematic action > immersion
