Green Flashes with sound stutter

Post » Sun May 20, 2012 12:05 am

When in game, I'm not too sure what causes it, but I noticed it first happening near water. It only happens outdoors also. But it's a quick stutter of sound and an array of green lines go horizontally across the screen. They have to color of the murky underwater look to them, I've also caught my character doing a swimming animation a few times when it happened.

screenshot of the color. For some reason the lines don't show up in screenshot, but the color of the area infront of my character is the color that flashes in horizontal lines.

Is there anyone that has read or found a fix for this issue?

Just wanted to say i have this same exact problem and ive been looking EVERYWHERE since yesterday for someone with the same issue....i get the same weird green/grey bars and the a quick sound repeat and then its all fine and back to normal

now the only difference is i ONLY get that issue if im using the ini tweak "iPresentInterval=0"...now if i remove that tweak i never see the issue thats being talked about in this thread

now ive uninstalled the game and reinstalled it...used 3 different AMD drivers for my 6950...nothing worked...hopefully its an in-game issue that can be solve via a patch or 2...but man i hope it gets solved

so you're saying if I change "iPresentInterval" to "1" my problem might stop?

I get something like this also. I can reproduce it by looking at the floor (outside) and moving my mouse to look at the floor then running backwards. The screen flickers and goes a murky yellow colour when i hit into small bumps on the ground and flickering horizontal lines, the sound also gets messed up for half a second or so. I am using "iPresentInterval=0" which seems to make the problem more common. If i use "iPresentInterval=1" the problem becomes MUCH less common and i cant reproduce it using the above steps BUT sometimes when standing on a rock or object just as i start to slide down it sometimes still happens (the bandit camp near the starting cave on the tents is a place i can usually get the bug to happen).

I installed skyrim on another computer and did not get the problem so it must only happen on some graphics cards? are you on a 460 also?

Specs of affected computer are:

GTX 460
i5
4gb RAM.

could you post a link to the youtube vid you made btw please? (ops did not read above properly ignore this bit)

This problem MUST be something to do with framerate/monitor refresh, since fraps caps the FPS when recording right? which in turn removes the problem and what i mentioned about vsync helping the problem.

you pretty much are on the same thought as i....cause when you remove the iPresentInterval from the ini...it enabled vsync which caps the fps at 60 but causes input lag

so it definitely has something to do with fps/refresh rate or something along those lines

im using a Samsung 22" LED backlit LCD monitor...anyone else using the same or similar? thinking maybe its a monitor issue

What really annoys me is a knew it would be like this... the random bugs that some people get and some don't it was the same with oblivion fallout 3 and new vegas. Its basically a lottery if the PC you use will be 100% fine or affected by bugs. Also i'm pretty sure they lied to us about this being a new engine it seems nothing more than an UPDATED Gamebryo engine. still getting this "bug" which i got in fallout 3 aswell http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ZxRaQYGWZc

sorry for the rant.

EDIT:

Don't think its monitor since when i tested on my spare PC (gtx 260) i used same monitor and did not get the issue.

hm...so if its not a monitor issue...then its a gpu issue in relation to the fps

is anyone having this issue without using the "iPresentInterval =0"?

OK... here is the SOLUTION to this problem AND some other issues.

1. download http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=34#content
2. extract "antilag" and d3d9.dll to the skyrim folder (the folder with TESV.exe)
3. open "antilag" and change "FPSlimit=30" to "FPSlimit=59" LEAVE the other option "RenderAheadLimit=0" AS IT IS.
4. if you have a nvidia card go to the nvidia control panel (right click on desktop and click "nvidia control panel") then go to "manage 3D settings" and change "Maximum pre-rendered frames" to 0. *****WARNING when playing other games you may want to put this back to 3 or make a profile for TESV.exe*****
5. If on windows 7 or vista make sure "TESV" is set to "run as administrator". ***while you are on this screen if you want set compatability mode for XP SP2 and disable themes and desktop compisition (not needed but made my game CTD less).***
6. "iPresentInterval=0" in "SkyrimPrefs" and add it to display in "Skyrim" these two ini files are in my docs my games skyrim. (not sure if this step is needed as the .dll will override it anyway.
7. make sure VSYNC is is not forced on in your nvidia settings.
8. PLAY.

So what does this fix?

it fixes the issue from this topic also it should stop physics from going haywire, ever walk into a room and hear noises of stuff on tabkes shaking etc? or stuff flying around a room when you enter? well it fixes all that as limiting the fps means the physics stay under control. This fix should also mean less noticable fluctuations in FPS AND no more mouse lag also. on top of all of this GPU does not have to work as hard as less frames mean less work.

So... is there any downside? its possible but ON MY SYSTEM I have not noticed anything bad happen due to this fix and overall it has made skyrim a much more fun game.
