You have made it abundantly clear this game is not going to be a game for you. Why do you spend so much time here? My bigger question is, when they make the new forums, are you going to transfer over?
That's a joke right? I've been dreaming of a TES MMO for more than 10 years now. I genuinely care about this franchise more than any other IP that exists, and from my very informed point of view it is being cannibalized to create a DAOC sequel with the TES name.
Of course I will be there on the official forums, and I will bang the drum for them to make the changes that I, and many, many others have been asking for all over the internet, even if it is entirely in vain.
In the mean time I am designing and developing my own as-of-yet unannounced MMORPG (not just me, ha). I honestly thought that ESO would put our endeavors to shame, and effectively make our game redundant. In a bitter-sweet reveal, it is NOTHING like what I had hoped for, and what our game already is. This is why it is ludicrous to say the tech isn't able to do a lot of these things, or they can't be balanced, because we are doing just that. While I'm not going to give too many more details (though I've hinted at a few things) I can tell you from first-hand experience, that it isn't much more difficult than building a WoW-clone, it's just a different approach, different mind-set and above all a passion for pushing the genre forward.
Our MMO will likely be another niche game, since it has no branded IP to latch onto, and not much in the way of funding when compared to the hundreds of millions that ESO has at its disposal. We will have to cut corners in order to do what we want (we tend to work smarter as opposed to harder), but ESO does not have to cut nearly as many corners. They have almost 10x our devs and probably 30x our funding.
It disappoints me when I see developers who I look up to fall into this all-too-common +1 trap. "It's like GW2, but with 3 factions!" "It's like DAOC with TES lore!"
I guess the upside is my MMORPG is still original and will break new ground, but without a major IP and without a huge marketing budget, will anyone ever hear about us?
On topic, I'll be around when I'm not busy. And you can bet on me being in the beta for this game.
