Guardian build ?

Post » Fri Aug 03, 2012 3:08 am

Well i just started playing Skyrim. I kind am lost on what i want to make. So far it's a very nice game, i mean i've only played five minutes of it. I just want to plan my build ahead of time to kind of avoid having to start over again.
Here is what i was thinking, i wanted to make a character that is hard to kill, but does damage. I was thinking of these as my major skills to focus on in terms of perk points :

Blocking (Used as my main weapon?)
Restoration
Heavy Armor
Smithing
Enchanting
Alteration

I mean the build sounds very defensive, which is what i want. But i'm afraid i'll do almost no damage? Isnt blocking a weapon of choice now? Could i just run through the game with a shield and do good damage? That is all i'm really worried about. I heard block is now a good damage dealer, but i want to make sure before shoving all my points down it!
Thanks for any replies, tips, tricks, etc.

P.S. I accept spoilers ;) !

If you go heavy armor plus smithing, alteration is totally useless unless you want paralysis

Replace that to one combat skill.

Also combine enchanting and smithing, it will be super overpower too (playing master atm with only smithin I can drop almost everyone in few second)

I will suggest to swap it with something else. Block is a nice one if you take one handed, or archery as range attack (especially dragon)

I was kind of hoping to be kind of unique and just use blocking as my "combat weapon" and keep a spell in another hand. So i could shield bash and then heal if needed.
And why is Alteration useless with heavy armor and smithing? You can get armor increasing if you use alteration spells right? The more armor the better?

because it is very easy to reach armor cap with heavy armor and smithing.

as for no combat approach... no idea then

Blocking as your weapon? I am sorry since when can you kill someone this way with (low) blocking skill?

I mean doesn't the shield bash do a little damage? And are you saying at high level block you can do damage pretty well?

Well unless you start off with 30 blocking and have 2 perk points available to learn power bashing I wouldn't recommend hunting yet no matter how well-armored you are, the armor will belong to your enemy once your dead anyway.

Better think of taking destruction instead of alteration, or one handed?

Can't i just train block by letting someone hit me and using my restoration spells to heal. So i'm training block+Resto+Leveling and getting those 2 perk points you talked about. And i really want to do alteration because the perks in the tree are defensive against magic, something you cant get any other tree.

I have to agree with everyone else that blocking as a weapon is kinda useless you should use one-handed and no enchanting just smithing try and level up your block to be defensive if you want offense put your perks I to one-handed

But isn't block a form of damage? It isnt just a form of block. Especially if they have power bash and charging. . . I just want to be different and wierd. Yeah i could go 1hand and pwn everything in 5 seconds. But that is no fun. Not to me at least.
