So I guess I should have just passed on this DLC?

Post » Tue Nov 20, 2012 4:10 pm

Possible spoilers I guess, given that I can't get past the second quest... well... yeah...

So anyways. I chose to pick up a character I had already progressed with and was already a vampire, so I was forced to utilize creative mechanics to even get the first quest (Whenever the vigilant talking to the dawnguard commander saw me, he hostiled and so did everyone else as soon as he did). Had to stealth ko him, and then talk to the guy while he was getting back up then sneak to avoid his attention. So now I've gotten to the next quest! Joy! Except once I side with the vampires I can't leave the room where you're taught to use your powers, because now the vampires all aggro me! I can't identify which one hostiles me to just kill him too, so I might as well just shelve it for a while. Fantastic job guys, 10/10!

Before you blame mods, I went in with an empty list, oh look at that, still happens. I guess I could start a new character, but I'd rather just not play DG than have to level ANOTHER archer to 100 skil.

Update - it appears the hostility starts as soon as I assume the Vampire Lord form, A lot of enemies appear and then end hostility before the tutorial ends.

Have you tried curing yourself of vampirism before talking to anyone?

The thing is that Skyrim saves mod info on the save files, unlike their previous games. Also mods need to be completely removed from the data folder to uninstall them, just uncheking the plugins isn't enough anymore. So it may yet be a mod issue. Only way to be sure would be to start a new character with a clean data folder.

You, as a vampire, went into the Dawnguard fortress and talked to their leader AND a Vigilant and were hostiled?

DUH!

Smart move. What did you think would happen?

That is odd, because when I played Dawnguard the first time I also had a pre-made character who was a vampire.
I could do the first quest just fine, no-one was hostile.

Were you a stage four vampire maybe, did you feed recently?

Im thinking it could be a bug.

Buggers attacked my character right after and I do mean right after contracting Vampireism. I thought perhaps I had hit one in combat, with vampires, so I reloaded and tried again. Got the disease again... I know I never hit any DG npc with the sword and they attacked again. Could be a glitch as I know ppl have said they played the DG side as a vampire, but it would make more sense to me that, that was a glitch. Vampire hunters... seems strange that they wouldn't attack on sight.

Yeah, if you have bounty in Riften... they act as guards and try to kill you. Turn yourself in, or pay the bounty.

There is a lot of content to the dlc. I can't imagine why someone would veto buying it because it had vamps in it

Because he is someone who thought the next TES game should involve Argonians listening to Dubstep whilst firing machine guns, and Imperial space ships and stuff. Elfpunk I think he called it. That's pretty much all he has done on this forum is say that TES should become more like Fallout.

You can avoid the agro bug by making sure you are undetected (go into a corner out of line of sight, sneak for a few seconds and make sure the eye is closed) when first transforming in a Vampire Lord during the "tutorial". For some reason if you do that transformation while being detected one or more Vampire NPC's become hostile to you, and the others will jump in.

Ahh I see now. I respect both TES and FO but please keep the wackiness out of my TES. As much as I dont like the growing trend of vamps in everything, I do believe that they were in desperate need of a overhaul and dg achieves just that. Overall, I've been playing dg since it came out for 360 and I am quite content with it. It's not perfect, but its good.
