I don't know, but I'm guessing it'll be on Monday.

But which Monday? There's more than one Monday in any given month/year. ;)

I read an article about this on Tieteen kuvalehti.

That particular article makes this sound much mroe dangerous than tieteen kuvalehti did, even though they shared the same facts. Might check the live thing out, hope it's not a live suicide.

I logically assumed next Monday, since otherwise the OP probably would have mentioned a date. And according to the article that seems to be correct. But Monday in which timezone?! :ahhh:

I too thought it was this Monday, but it'd definitely be nice to know exactly the date and time. This is something I'd like to see live and not recorded.

http://www.redbullstratos.com/ and I'm guessing you'll be able to watch the footage on that site too.

I can't imagine breaking the sound barrier can be good for his physical health.
Such speeds must put enormous pressure on his body.

Since I can barely stand the thought of going bungee jumping, this would have me clinging to the sides of the pod screaming "NOOOOOO, changed my mind, can I go home now."

But I like his reasons for working on/testing this stuff, so I hope he makes it and it all works like they're hoping it will.

I'm totally going to livestream the heck out of this. I hope they post a time so I can watch it from beginning to end as it happens! I'm sure if he dies they'll pull it from the internet, would they?

That's why I want to watch it live. Just in case he doesn't make it. I'd assume they'd Yank it if he doesn't make it. Which I'd assume if he didn't make it the video would never be seen.

If I'm not mistaken, breaking the sound barrier through free falling would probbably be faster and more damaging than rocket-sledding.
If he's in free fall, there is air pressure, nothing to grab a hold to, no way to cover yourself from the wind, and lots of other things.

Detached retinas doesn't sound too good either.

He had that sudden stop at the end.

The amazing thing would be if he lives..

There should be parades thrown in his honor if he does.

What he is doing is taking us one step closer to understanding our planet..and exploring our solar system and our galaxy.

Beh, I hate having to click links to know what a whole thread is about. Xurtsy likes summaries! I joke

I remember hearing about a big skydive that's coming up where the diver pretty much has to be dropped from the edge of space in order to accomplish his record. I don't remember whether he was trying to break the sound barrier or just gunning for the world's longest fall. Is this the same story?

I'm still picking up the pieces that fell on my yard, I'm going to be rich!

That was in terrible taste, sorry. I do wish him to succeed, but I fear air traveling companies adapting the method to drop their passengers at destination and save loads of money on fuel.
