Dear Bethesda Forum User,

We have identified a potential breach of our forum user database that occurred Friday morning, Aug 12. We have reset your forum password as a precaution, in the event that any encrypted forum user passwords were compromised.

When you next try to login to the forums, your old password will not work. Click the "I've forgotten my password link" underneath the login boxes, and follow the steps to setup a new password for your account.

We recommend you do not use your old password or a password you have used for other sites. Further, if your old forum password was used for any other online purposes, we recommend changing the password on those accounts as well.

If you have any concerns, visit the following link:

Congratulations.

Way to, you know, bolster security.

Unfortunately the lack of [img] tags means that my slow clap processor did not make it into this thing.

But anyway, thanks for at least telling us about the breach in relative short manner. Thankfully my logon to this site is a randomly generated throwaway password.

Then this was posted by Freddo and then the thread (Hacked Again) was locked...

Continue the discussion http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1220327-forum-breach/, thanks

But I had to laugh because not only was this thread locked, but the thread Freddo linked to was locked as well because the post count had reached the incredibly small limit of 200. I had no place to post this so I came back to start a new topic. Maybe we can get in at least a couple of posts before this one gets locked. Whatya say?

Anyway, I just wanted to say that I'm tired of all this forum hacking going on. I'm tired of coming up with new generic or random passwords that I have to remember. It's very frustrating to me.

In closing, I guess it's a good thing we moved over here to be more secure... :hubbahubba: Sorry, I couldn't resist.

I don't think we moved over here to be more secure. I think it was just a transition pointed that just seemed to happen. There was no reason for Thrax to have to host that stuff on his own personal web space, especially since he didn't even get to attend QuakeCon this year.

Yeah, it can be frustrating that people want to try to break into systems, but there's not much anyone can do about it. I use a random Phonetic password generator and rotate passwords. It can be a pain trying to remember those passwords on the go, but at least I know that if something happens all of my other accounts are safe.

P.S. - This really isn't the appropriate area for this post, and I'm pretty sure by now most everything that's needed to be said about it has been said about it, so I'm locking the thread.
