So I had to kill every single guard in Markarth

Post » Sun May 27, 2012 6:27 pm

Did the quest forsworn conspiracy which resulted from me and a group of other forsworn breaking out of the dungeon.

Every guard was hostile to me, even after the quest ended.

I had to come back recently to sort out the situation for the stormcloaks and guess what....every guard came out me and now they are dead.

Is this normal?

I'm wayyyyyyyyy to far past that point where I can reload before the conspiracy quest...that was hours ago.

Hopefully they get replaced by Stormcloaks?

EDIT: played a bit more in, it will be impossible to do any quests in this city now, everyone is hostile. AWEsome

Same happened to me... EXCEPT... I couldn't make it out with Lydia alive. So, I had to load before that last fateful decision and put it off for now.

p.s. you may want to spoiler tag your post.

i had this same problem and found the way to fix it involving the stormcloaks storyline:

Spoiler

i had the same problem, and following the stormcloaks will fix this problem.

for the stormcloacks, you have to take over markarth. part of it involves finding the amulet showing that one of the jarl's people actually worships talos.

to do this you have to basically do what you did and kill every guard. you have to basically fight your way into the palace, once in there you have to kill everybody in there and find the amulet showing the guy worships talos.

after you find it, you have to 'kill' the actual guy by bringing him to one knee. while he is on one knee it will allow you to talk to him. once you can talk to him, you can continue to complete the storm cloak mission.

after you finish and you take over that one fort (can't remember the name) all the guards in markarth will change to stormcloaks, and they will not approach you.

this was nearly a game breaking bug for me, but now that they are all stormcloaks i can freely go about my business in markarth in peace

Same! I am just letting this play out. I "could" revert to an older save but I wanna see what happens once all guards are dead and how my status with the city plays out

yep no problem, this was about as close to a game breaking bug as i have found so far.

for this bug, the guards approach you and you are given a dialogue that is part of the actual quest, and any choice you choose (besides fighting them) is an endless loop, so you can't do anything but fight them. so there's no way to do anything except fight the people, which makes your bounty get extremely large, and there's no way to pay it off as the dialogue is an endless loop!

but i have heard of people say they've been approached by bounty hunters, and you can pay off your bounty this way, but i have never encountered them

I have the same infinite loop problem, it makes it difficult to even enter Markarth. I really hope they fix this problem!

Markarth is probably the most beautiful and interesting city in the game. Unfortunately this bug forces me to avoid going there unless I absolutely have to. Then, I spend most of my time dodging the guards.

The way you avoid this in future is to simply not get involved in the fight. When you break out, the guards are not actually hostile to YOU, only the people you arrived with. So hitting them first counts as a crime. Only spectate the fight and loot the bodies and you'll be fine. :)

That is exactly what i did. I stayed in the back row and picked up the pickings from the fallen guards. :celebration: :icecream:  :wavey:

I didnt' get involved in the fight at all. I just hung back.

But then I entered the Talos shrine. Guards attacked me, I was given two options, Either go back to the mine or fight. I chose to go peacefully, but they still slammed me.

It's a bug. I tried it 3 times doing different options. You cannot enter the talos shrine again. At least I couldn't.

I've had some issues with the markarth guards as well, not to the point where its really a problem though. Every so often while I'm in the city, one guard will attack me. So I kill him, and none of the other guards care.

Seen several threads over this, and started one myself earlier in the week.

I did the quest, broke out with the Forsworn, and killed about 3 guards who were attacking me. The quest is not clear whatsoever. The leader says I will be forgiven in time for everything I've done. I guess it doesn't matter when the guards are even in on it all.

Now, when I return to Markarth, I am ambushed by guards. When presented the speech menu, when I offer to go to jail, the speech cycle starts over, or they start attacking me. So, I am left to run off because I cannot pay the bounty nor go to jail. And this is the big problem people seem to be having and it is in fact, a bug.

*spoiler*
The simple solution is to not kill any of the guards during the quest, and kill the Forsworn leader, instead. However, I have saved over it already and cannot go back.

Markarth is a bed of corruption, just a pure filthy city and corrupt from the everyone to the Jarl. The Forsworn are no decent folk either so I just killed everyone I could and come time I helped the Stormcloaks oust that Jarl whats his name and my huge bounty was gone.

I did the quest and killed guards on the way out (quite a few, actually). Came back some time later directly to the Fortress thing (for the Talos quest), and the guards approached me and demanded my surrender. I chose to go to jail, and got sent into the mine, did my time, no more guard aggro.

And then I became a cannibal = P :celebration:

You can avoid this bug by staying out of the final fight in that quest.

I walked out with the Rag King and kept my weapons sheathed.
It was like what the heck, no one attacked me at all. It was just the Forsworn and the guards hammering each other.
ALl of the FOrsworn I found later holed up in some cave elsewhere.
