Hancock Spontaneously Permadying

I assume this is old news by now. But, my Hancock managed to stay alive for a total of like 1 hour or less after I dismissed him to The Castle (he didn't even walk there, I just left him there.)

Whenever I visit, the settler count decreases by one and Hancock is nowhere to be found. I can only assume his corpse is laying around somewhere unless it actually despawns and vanishes entirely after an amount of time.

I'm very bummed out about this, and I'm hoping when this gets patched and he's set as an Essential that he'll be resurrected. Worst case scenario I'm hoping the patch just teleports/resurrects him back at Goodneighbor or Sanctuary or something. Please Bethesda, I don't plan on replaying this game anytime soon, so having him alive in my current 5 day+ save would be swell, thanks.

He's not one of the essential companions after he's dismissed. so, he can be killed enroute to whereever he's dismissed to. Solution is to head to the location you're planning to send him and dismissing him there.

A patch won't resurrect him since that would require it accessing the save game -which they don't- and how does it determine if he's died accidentally or if someone purposely killed him? Not to mention, patches altering save games is fraught with enough problems anyways.

I also dismissed him at the location, but that didn't prevent him from randomly dying when I wasn't around. That's very unfortunate then. I'd assume they could detect if he was a companion or not and what his approval rating of you was. It'd be nice to have some sort of option/toggle to fix it somewhere (or even a Mod whenever XB1 players get that functionality.)
