2 handed or shield?

Post » Sun May 13, 2012 11:11 am

So I just made a new character today after putting a good 40+ hours into my nord. Not done playing with him but I want to keep it fresh and try new things.
I made a big burly redguard with dreads and so far I like it. But my problem is I don't know if I want to go two handed sword or shield seeing as how I'm duel wielding on my nord.
Anyone willing to share their experiences with two handed weapons or shields. Which do you like more out of the two handed weapons and how do you feel about the shields?

MY personal Preference is 1 handed axes [abit slower than swords, but with abit more damage] :) I love the thought of being able to defend yourself and bash the enemy out of the way :) However, don't expect large amounts of damage with 1 handed weapons, although they do quite a decent amount.

i personally use a two handed battle axe with my nord and love it. it amount of power is insane. be shure to increase your stamania though as even my nord will swing it very slow when he is tired.

I duel wielded swords with my nord and once I got the perk to 5/5 they did a fair amount of damage where I could take down normal bandits in one or two hits which worked well for me. Lol

I like them both. The shield I like for the bash, while blocking attack, that knocks people off guard for a few big hits. The two handed weapons I like for the real big hits. My character with two handed weapons is focusing on war hammers. I figured I should go as big as I could. It's slow, but the damage is great.

I can't recommend one over the other as it depends on the type of character you are building.

After getting jumped by a bandit archer and three wolf's the shield really saved my life compared to the 2 handed weapon. I think I'm going to go sword and board. Or some form of one handed weapon. I'm liking these battle axe's.

FYI you can also Block, Bash and even Power Bash with a 2h weapon.

Personally my first toon is Orc with Heavy + Block + 2h, just avoiding the shield specific perks, and it works wonders. Block the power attack, power bash in the teeth, standing Power attack.

Yea the more I think about it, the axes sound more fun to me, a mix of power and finesse, which I like because I am trying to play an agile warrior.

I love my stealthy agile nord with his duel swords and I think they fit perfectly besides daggers but I like swords more. But I just picked up a mace so I'm going to see how I like it compared to the axe. Going for completely different this time around. My nord is all light armor and duel wielding so I'm going heavy and with shield and sword.

@StonedSoul - I see. I didn't really know you could do that however the speed of a 2 handed weapon is a lot slower than I'm used to I don't know if that's what I'm feeling for this character. But I'm going to remember that when I make my next character.

Thanks Stonedsoul, I've been too busy swinging the big hammer around to try and get fancy. I'll have to work on that.

One handed and Spell. Sometimes I swap for shield. Dual wielding doesn't fit my character.

This. All my previous warriors have gone for the 2-handed weapons, so I decided to try something new with this character. She's actually wielding a mace right now, just for something different.

I actually plan on making my gear to keep the whole game. I might make 1 of each weapon to change up my play style every once and a while and for different situations.
