2 Hander questions

Post » Wed May 16, 2012 4:04 pm

My main question is for the perks. Are they worth it? Both in terms of utility/damage, and cool factor?

Also how do you find blocking with a 2H?

From reading the block line its all about shield so I assume block skill tree has nothing to do with 2H if thats the case how does 2H blocking scale?

The backwards and sideways power attack perks I assum you hold down the mouse while hitting either back or sideways movement keys top pull those moves off?

How do you do fighting dragons and other ranged attackers in general? Without a shield and assuming your not using sneak or other magic how well do you fare against ranged enemies and ragons breath, especially at higher difficulty levels how do you survive?

block skill governs blocking both with or without shield (perks that are for obvious shield uses are exceptional ofcourse such as bashing)

So all these skills apply to your 2 hander? Thats pretty cool if get the elemental bonus, although a little weird, and man should they reword the block tree to include 2 handers.

I've found the sprinting+power attack to be very useful, so long as you learn to lend it properly.

I just got the sideways power-attack perk last night, seemed very useful. It can stagger all creatures. At least it did with the draugir.

I'm not sure about the last one, though. 25% chance paralyzing attack seems like a small pay off considering how hard backward power-attacks can be to land. 25% is too unreliable to me. 50% would have been perfect.

I'm starting to have the most fun fighting ranged attackers, because aside from dragons they tend to be squishy. I either rush them, archers aren't quick enough to harm me much, or I use walls or obstacles to my advantage to lure mages closer.

I can't answer the questions regarding the blocking perks, I only really need to block the other two handed weapon users, so I haven't invested any points there.

I use 2h but I never block. You have a reach advantage with your weapon so its better to back up and then hack vs block. That's why the 25% paralyzing attack is nice. Umm and yes the Sprinting Attack is super cool and again if u use it right its awesome.

I use 2 hand axe and I have yet to find alot of nice axes. Swords might be a better route. I specialized in axes so i'm kinda stuck with them. To fight dragons you need Dragonrend. Its a shout that forces a dragon to land. and vs other ranged attackers I just charge them or make them come around corner.

Best part about 2-handed is almost everything dies in 1-2 hits. Most [censored] dies in 1 hit.

Yes the perks are well worth it. Decide what kind of weapon you will be using though - no point in perking out maces axes and swords all at the same time.
Most perks in the tree increse damage output in some way. Great critical charge helps to catch up with the backpedaling mages. You hold down the direction key to perform different attacks, it may be difficult to land a sideways attack, as your character is moving during it, but with the sweep perk it's well worth it. You can block and bash (attack while holding block) with a 2hander. Bashing will interrupt the enemies attack.

Ahh cool so do the block bash perks also apply to 2H?

Dragonrend to bring dragons to the ground and unrelenting force to keep them from breathing on you. by the time I use unrelenting force and hack them 2-4 times they die.

I have no points in the block tree. But I tried putting points in power bash and the character now screams when you bash.... not sure about the effects though. I'll try it out on the guards.

Edit: well the only difference between the bash and power bash I noticed so far, is that the later uses more stamina and you scream...

I use archery, shouts, and a lot of maneuvering against dragons. Once they hit the ground, it's hammertime. For those dragons where someone else has their attention, I just wait and get positioned to the flank.

I usually end up taking 1 dragon breath heads on while dumping my power attacks, having some points in health and 40% magic resistance from jewelry helps (I do not bother with elemental resistances).

Don't know if anyone have noticed, but great critical charge perk doesn't work with 2-h swords, while with 2-h hammers\axes it does work. Seems like a bug to me. =(
