Hardest Ingredient to find

Post » Tue Jun 05, 2012 2:26 pm

Its not that the River Betty has a hidden "increase power" effect or anything. Its just that the River Betty has a higher strength Damage Health effect.
It is the same thing. It is a hidden quality and it amplifies poisons. Why deny it now?

I am not sure how exactly it works.

A River Betty not only has the effect Damage Health on it, but it multiplies the damage of poisons. It works like a hidden 5th effect.

Not all poisons do the same amount of damage and adding a River Betty in the process will increase it.

Edit:
I have just tested it, and a River Betty does not amplify Lingering Health Damage. There may however be some other ingredient that could work as amplifier. I have not found them all yet.

Here is a picture of the effect of a River Betty:

Thanks for the info on River Betty! I'll start using it again. It went to the wayside when I started using paralysis poisons.

Thanks for that.

Giant's Toe has much longer duration fortify health...

I think Giant's Toe is there to encourage spending a perk point to remove any poison effect if you want to create an uber multiple health potion.

For the potions I like to make, Eye of Sabre Cat is the ingredient I never have enough of. Sabre Cats do drop them, but never enough to keep up with the other 2 ingredients I use for my insta-heal potions. Spending perk points in the Speech tree somewhere opens up rare ingredients (like pearls, small pearls, powdered mammoth tusk) being more frequently available from vendors.

On my second character, I just started the College of Winterhold quest and had forgot that when you are given the tour and your own room, there is a room with an alchemy table that has ingredients all over it. These ingredients do respawn and have a set of two Spriggan Sap.

Thanks for the tips everyone. I finally got more than 20 Jazbay Graqes! I had 11 from various places and found the rest near the Atronach stone and further out from it in the hot springs area. They sure are scarce though.

Another tip about the Canis root is that it's a dried up branch with a right-angled bend in its stem...makes it easier to spot. I also found a bunch traveling the shoreline on the farthest north point of Skyrim from north of Solitude heading west. There's a lot up there. :tes:

I was poking in a dungeon last night and found 3 Pearls near a grave offering/shrine. First time I ever found those.

Canis Root can also be found in large quantities in the swamp between Solitude and Morthal, although it can be tricky to spot with all the fallen trees around. Also a good source for Mora Tapinella, and the only source of any size that I know of for Giant Lichen (hard to see, look on the ground for a small collection of green stalks in a brown patch).

RE: Jazbay Graqes: in the hot springs area, check every flat surface; some of what appears to be yellow moss is actually Jazbay vines, they did a bit too good of a job blending them in.

Just curious, how is it you have a void salts that didn't stack?

I've seen this myself. Curiously, I can have a stack of void salts without an indication of how many there are. I just keep using them til they're gone.

I'm going to go fishing for river betty. I'd like to experiment with it. If only you could actually fish in this game... it's something I miss from WoW, especially as there are some truly beautiful places to go fishing in Skyrim.

Pearls and powdered mammoth tusk are the rarest in my experience. Oh, and although it isn't an alchemy ingredient, did you know you can get Sleeping Tree Sap from a tap on the Sleeping Tree? Only one vial, though, and I'm not sure how often you can do it.

The sleeping tree sap begins as a quest for a vendor in Whiterun. The tree is guarded by giants and mammoths and the tree is a cool purple. After that you can go back once a day and get more sap to sell to her. The sap is worth more during the quest but drastically goes down afterwards. Fishing would be cool!

I always play Argonians, so I 'fish' by swimming submerged in the rivers and grabbing the fish as they come within reach. I do, however, wish the fishing poles actually worked, since some parts of the rivers are shallow and it's hard to see the fish through fast-moving surface water. Not sure what we'd use for bait, though, since there are no earthworms in Tamriel.

The second kind of salt.

Just to clarify... there are at least two object IDs for Salt.... yes... Salt.
And of course, as with other duplicate cases like Nirnroot and Crimson Nirnroot..... you can combine the two kinds of Salt to get a potion with all 4 effects (though the two negative ones are enough, since one of them is Slow, which sells well)....
BUT.... well... good luck finding the second ID of Salt. I don't even remember where I got my one from...

There's this one poison I used to make that would decrease magicka regeneration by 100 percent. I can't remember the ingredients though.

I think it was chaurus eggs and one other thing.

Not quite the same thing. River Betty produces an amplified version of Damage Health if used in any recipe (potion or poison) that results in that effect, and only impacts that single effect (not any other poison effects).

Note that in the image http://img171.imageshack.us/img171/7854/riverbetty.jpg you could remove either the red mountain flower or the imp stool and have the exact same resulting poison; this is common to all of the "modified effect" ingredients, because they only have an impact on (typically one of) the effects they can actually produce as ingredients. If you replaced the Imp Stool with Ectoplasm or Briar Heart, you would http://209.46.18.232/wiers.us/skyalc/workbench.php?recipes_tab&show=results&52 get a rather dangerous to use potion...

There's a pretty clear overview of this on http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Alchemy_Effects and I plan to integrate the data into my alchemy workbench.

Agh, those buggers are annoying to catch...

Yeah, those would work as bait, but I tend to grind them into potions instead. On the other hand, they can also be used to track the fish, as there are always fish in the water below them.

It is the same thing - a hidden quality and it amplifies poisons. You think I said something like, I quote, "increase power" effect or anything. I did not. It is only what you read into it. How would I know what an increase power effect is? So why do you keep denying it?! I suggest that you keep making your comments, but stop referring to me.

And thanks for posting the link to UESP. I could not find it myself, I only remembered it now.
