You fight it's ghost for a quest. It's the Guardian Mudcrab, and a nod to the Giant Mudcrab from Oblivion. It's always dead. Actually, you cannot move it's body. It's a static object, like a rock.

You'd need a nutcracker the size of a minivan to open that shell, though. That, or a jackhammer.

I haven't yet come across this thing, but I always get a kick out of seeing over-sized versions of normal creatures. First time I ran into the Giant Mudcrab in Oblivion was quite a surprise.
