Has anyone RP'd as a normal citizen yet?

Post » Mon May 21, 2012 5:03 am

Im wondering if anyone has roleplayed as just a regular citizen of say a small village. Has a job as a wood cutter, blacksmith or a miner? I'd imagine it would get boring eventually but my buddy has a file where he works in Rorikstead I think it was as a wood cutter. So any Skyrim regular joe's out there?

Of course not, I'm the Dragonborn! ^^

Myeah, think it could get boring after a while if you play woodcutter. Perhaps travelling salesman would be more interesting, you at least get around although I doubt there's profit to be had from buying in one place and selling in another.

Eventually I plan to make a character that is simply a jewel maker. He will have no combat skills and will need a mercenary to protect him.

The closest I've come is taking my role as Thane seriously.
I used to ride around the hold talking to farmers, helping with the harvest, hunting game etc.
I really have no clue what a Thane actually does (if anything) so I just kinda made it up as I went along.

But just being a peasant, chopping wood for a living... no way, my real life job is boring grind enough as it is, my fantasy escapist job needs to be substantially more epic.

Try and RP a character lost from Obllivion's era through a portal and transported to the Skyrim of today trying to find his way home.

Then change game disc to Oblivion and realize how pointless is to RP (with such serious intends) on a video game.

I do it all the time when I'm in cities, especially in Whiterun cause I have a house there :D Take armor off and put on regular clothes, and at evenings go to the local tavern and things like that

Oh come on dude, whatever floats yer boat.
The "point" is enjoying yourself.

I always take my helmet off when going indoors.
Always change into civvies when in town trading and whatnot and I bet you a huge amount of peeps do the same.

It just feels right to do stuff like that in this game.

Blacksmithing alone with take you almost up to level 20 if you start at level one and dont do anything else.

The only time I played as a normal person was when I worked as a woodcutter in Riverwood to grind for the money I needed for the house in Whiterun in my first game.

How is anyone supposed to roleplay as a miner if you can dig up the entire mine in less than 5 minutes?

Why the hell would anyone watch their character chop wood all the time?

I'm all for RPing doing everything.

I′m trying, but... working is not as I thought it would be. :sadvaultboy:

I tried to play as a woodcutter and after, as a miner and bs in Riverwood, but there′s no furnace to smelt my irons there. So I moved to Whiterun, well, now I live as a ElkHunter and use the leathers to upgrade my smithing skill. I thought it could be possible to work in the Honeybrew meadery, but I think it′s not possible.

One day I will get tired of my poor life and enter the stormcloaks to revenge my Nord brothers who′ve been suffering on Imperial hands :verymad:
