So, has this game been censoredcut in any way?

Hey guys,

I've seen lots of rumors float around, but not much that is really definitive. Has Doom 3 been cut/censored/toned down in any way for the BFG Edition? I know they removed the Nazis from Doom 2, but they must have changed something about Doom 3 as well. Resurrection of Evil was originally forbidden in Germany while the BFG Edition is not banned, so they can't be exactly the same. Has anything been removed from the expansion? Did you notice any less blood, or do Zombies vanish more quickly? I always thought I remembered that bodies already vanished in the original game, I could be wrong though.

Thanks in advance for your answers :)

People complain about killed Zombies vanishing, but they don′t unless they are disintegrating shortly after taking a full blast from a high powered weapon or close range hit from the shotgun, - just like in the 2004 release.
Killed Monsters are always disintegrating, - also just like in the 2004 release.
The things missing in BFG compared to the 2004 Doom 3 is there is no blood splatter at the wall behind an enemy that gets hit and there are no bullet holes in the wall if you shoot at them.

This is no censorship, it's a bug. There's already a thread about this. Blood splatter and decals are not visible anymore when loading a save game after dying.
A patch should fix this.

The changes made for BFG Edition were conscious decisions by id Software. Notable changes include

1) Including the flashlight mod: this was something id received tons of feedback on over the years and we decided to implement it
2) We made the humanoid zombie more demonic looking: This was an artistic change made by the artists at id.
3) Dead zombies now disappear faster: this is something we changed to optimize performance for the game.

Hope that clears things up

ROE was not forbidden in Germany. The USK denied a rating and therefore it was never released.
The english import was set on the german index later on.
This does not mean it's forbidden or banned. It just prohibits advertising and selling to non advlt gamers.

Taking into account that this was in 2004/2005, it is likely that ROE got a rating now as lots of games today pass the USK ratings board uncensored that are way more graphically violent than Doom3 and ROE.
Laws have changed here since then and a USK rating protects games from being set on the index.
