Hate how Horses are implemented

Post » Tue Aug 14, 2012 3:23 am

I am usually trying to use quick travel as less as possible, for the sake of immersion. But what REALLY bugged me in Skyrim is: Horses. Good riddance. Can you please make horses just immortal and passive? SO often I parked my horse somewhere, only to find it attacking a pack of wolves or heck even a dragon! Or just running off somewhere. The number of horses I lost is really absurd.

It is the one thing I REALLY disliked about Skyrim. And no, horse armor is not doing it. I want my horse a passive, immortal riding object.

He's a good, reliable steed too. Although you may need conjuration spell reduction equipment if Conjuration isn't your thing.

One of the problems is, that horses attack EVERYTHING. And as a result they often run all over the map and are gone and lost. That's just not fun.

Yes, you're 100 % right about that.

I'd say Yahtzee Croshaw was right about the horses; they will not rest until everything hostile in a square mile radius has been obliterated. Anyway, are you playing on the PC? Because there are several mods which address the issue. If you're not on PC, then I suggest instead using your own legs to travel; horses don't go much faster anyway.

I still ponder how nobody in Nirn has thought to put a saddlebag on a horse.

I hate the horses. ended up killing Shadowmare in some remote place... he can respawn there. I hate horse use in general with Skyrim simply based on the fact they have follower coding. They SHOULD NOT attack anything hostile. They should stay place like you tied them to a tree or something.

Oh god, err oh Akatosh, I saw my horse fighting some critter all the time! That, or I returned to where I had parked my horsey only to witness it being grilled by some dragon. I guess I bought ~30+ horses and then just gave it up.

Well, horses make good dragon bait. Want to make those buggers land? Bring a horse.

what bugs me is that you're the only one with a horse on the road apart from a few nobles. not even wild one. its like they were just thrown in. Really unambitious or apparently impossible.

That was how I finally lost her.. dragon... troll's and bandit's.. don't know which one got her, but I'm going for bandit's cause she had like 6 arrows.

I do remember Todd Howard saying in his DICE keynote that such a feature would actually be very easy for them to do. They call it "putting stuff in the spotlight"; focusing on more core elements rather than splash everything in at once. As in, if they had that feature then all the other problems with horses would be exposed.

Fair enough, a kitchen sink approach to sandbox gameplay would certainly lose any sense of flow or focus but in a game like Skyrim I think it would be better to implement multiple features and enable the player to create their experience.

Could anyone cite a good example of horse combat? The only other game I tried with it was Warband, and I didn't exactly like how your character would ponder about before actually getting a move on! The actual combat was good though.

I never put him on my favorites so he isn't takeing up a slot. I've never needed him in a hurry so I didn't see the need.
