I have to question the efficiency of NCR Troops.

Granted, yes, 'It's a game' but still for arguments sake.

How is it the NCR are so worried to lose their numbers when a single man (I.E. The Courier) can reclaim Nipton AND single handedly bludgeon Cottonwood Cove to death? :stare:

Because they're weak.
In combat skill.
In tactics.
In calmness during battle.
In bed.
They're just pathetic.
Seriously.
I haven't met a single NCR Trooper that I respected.
I've met some ranked members which I like.
But most named and unnamed lower ranked people I just want to slap their face in and tell 'em to man up.

Only reason the canon ending would be that NCR won is just to keep the NCR storyline going.
But logically I could see none other than Legion winning and having it the canon ending.
Not because I love them.
But because NCR's soldiers are just weak.
The Desert Rangers on the other hand.
Those are damn good special ops veterans.
But they're Desert Rangers.
Not [censored] ass NCR troopers.

/Totally not biased. Really. I'm not!

Because unlike the player, NPCs dont have the magical quicksave button.....just think how many times you died during all your travels....the first time would be death to a NPC.

Factor in the fear of death that the player doesnt have, they just dont want ot go an do these crazy things.

Or perks.
Or good weapons.
Or fully repaired weapons.
Or special ammo.
Or VATS.
Or pausing time and using a stimpack.
Or use drugs.
...
Yeah.

Yeah.

Yeah the odds are stacked firmly in our favour, what with it being a game and all. If we were on the same level as the rest of the troops we wouldn't have any choice but to spend the entire game hiding in New Vegas along with them.

Questioning the efficiency of NCR troops? Hell, every single nameless NCR trooper is like 1980's Arnold Schwarzenegger compared to, say, the Brotherhood of Steel.

I literally could not believe that every single patrol that was sent out, fully equipped with power armor, managed to get themselves killed whilst I survived the exact same conditions in leather armor.

It was utterly laughable. The only reason I helped them out at all is because I wanted PA training. Funnily enough, once I got it, I only wore T-51b once then threw it back in my stash in favor of combat armor.

Well, it makes sense that the one scout unit died, since it was blasted by howitzers.

And another had a portion of a ceiling fall on it. And the others got mobbed by centaurs when equipped with only some laser rifles.

Point taken, but what's the REPCONN patrol's excuse?

I fail to see how a ceiling falling on a suit of power armor is exactly lethal.

With those last two though, I thought Power Armor basically meant you could just lift that ceiling off of you, and the centaurs, while rough, seem like they'd be bloatflys to a guy in PA.

Its not that the NCR are Not efficient its that the player is TOOO efficient.

If you come across a couple of NCR and wasteland creatures fighting it out, and you don't intervene, then the battle looks turns out realistic. But when you come in with a missile launcher, fat man, plasma rifle etc and 10000 rounds of ammo blast all the bad guys away no problem, and then say "Why aren't you guys winning like i am". Then there's your problem.

Or use drugs.

I object. There are plenty of addicts in the NCR military! Like that one in Camp Forlorn Hope who's stealing meds. Or the supply officer in McCarron who's dealing drugs on the side. :P

I fail to see how a ceiling falling on a suit of power armor is exactly lethal.

Well, if you're trapped, you'd slowly die of dehydration. Or perhaps the ceiling fell in just the wrong way to snap the poor guy's neck.

Personally, I'd assume the Repconn guys were killed by the hidden security robots, while the Black Mountain guys were killed by muties and dumped in that crater for a centaur snack. The other ones were killed by howitzers.

Mind, I think a large part of the reason the NCR troops get a bad rap is that they buy into the Legion's propaganda of being unstoppable warriors, and with the absence of NCR victories to derive inspiration from, simple conscripts or basic troopers aren't really confident enough to fight well. It's why the Courier showing up is so important to them - someone who can actually achieve victories is a rare thing in the NCR.

I think the NCR troops are weak because of all the bureaucracy. NCR is about as efficient as the real-world US senate as far as getting anything done. Therefore they just sit around doing very little.

As for the BoS....eh...Power Armor isn't all that godlike. Sure the armor might survive. But what about that soft, fragile fleshy thing inside it? It's not hard at all to die when you're in a tin can, a rather minor fall can prove fatal.

I see the NCR Troopers as an Expeditionary Force rather than the whole. In other words, a part of an army in foreign territory. This, added with gambling, (poor) morale, raiders, and their understanding of their position in the Mojaves (like or not like by many people), it is quite amazing that the troopers are still occupying there.

Yeah, no kidding, Boone and I just stormed into the Fort and Assassinated Caeser.

Gotta admit it took a bit of Jet, Med-X, Psycho, Buffout, Hydra (love this drug!), about 10 Stimpacks, roughly 40 .302 Armor Piercing rounds and 2 Stealth Boy's to do it, but we got the svcker ;)

I'll take that Chip thank you very much!

I agree what with most people are saying here but take this into consideration. 6 NCR Troopers, standard issue equipment. All killed by two Legion Explorers with cowboy rifles. It wasn't a surprise attack, the legionaries didn't have any terrain advantage or whatnot. Just a standard raid. That is a sad state for an army.
