Have you been looked at weird or got negative feedback for d

Post » Sat May 12, 2012 8:16 pm

I shrug it off but was curious if this happens to anyone else. Sorry if tl;dr;

For example: I live near my alma mater high school, and when I take my dog for a walk (School ends around 3PM, then dies down around 4PM and all that is left is the stragglers at 5PM.), I get odd looks from the students as if I am half naked and my dog has bunny ears. Not just students, advlts as well. Not sure if my looks are a factor (I am almost gonna be 20 but I look like I could be 14 or 15). As a matter of fact, advlts heckled me before when minding my own business, walking my dog in a public place (Saying things like "No dogs allowed!" in a sarcastic manner).

Another example: In my Junior year, I was in Woodshop class, and I just got done with a project but had a messy, messy area. As I was cleaning, I was just whistling the "High-Ho" tune from Snow White, and someone stright up said to me "You are whistling while working? Why are you such a [censored]?".
Biggest "lolwut?" moment of my HS career.

Oh and the looks I get when asking for job applications (Again, my young looks could be a factor).

I also get odd looks when I ask for coffee at resturants. I guess a young advlt not asking for Starbucks is a rare sight

Look at it like this: You get looked at wierd if you admit that you play video games (and you are in your 20s-30s and up)

Gotta be when I was in year 9 in Cooking. There was flour all over my bench and a little on the floor because we were making fallafels, I think, anyway as I was cleaning it up the teacher walked past me, snarled, and then said "Aren't you going to clean that up?" I was thinking What the hell does it look like I'm doing? Ahhh highschool.

Reminds me of someone I knew my Freshman year that mentioned how he got suspended in his Freshman year (He was a Senior) for sneezing during the pledge of alligence.

Have you looked in the mirror lately? Maybe someone drew something obscene on your face while you were sleeping.

1) Moving my mouth when reading and concentrating can get weird looks

2)Humming tunes

3)Using my fingers to count numbers

4)People have a heart attack in shops when you say keep the change and it is only a few pennies.

5) Sticking your hand out a moving cars window to feel the wind along the motorway for long journeys

All provoke weird reactions and sometimes negitivity. I also once asked a person for directions and they swore in my face but not sure if it was because of who I was with or if they were just an ass. I find that showing basic manners to people seems to provoke a attitude of extreme suspicion and puzzlement *sigh* but alas that is the world we live in.

Telling people that I am vegetarian or refusing drinks at partys can get me some really weird looks too... Sadly.

Everybody has their idiosyncrasies, bad days and problems. Maybe people just like to take out their [censored] on you. Maybe you look like you'll take it? I used to have this problem in school. I don't take [censored] from people anymore, though, and it shows, so people don't mess with me.
Whatever the reason, though, it happens, to everyone. Sometimes you're just the nearest person available for catharsis.

I get looked at weird when people discover:

I watch animes other than Bleach, Naruto, Death Note, DBZ, etc (I watch those too, but don't get the looks for it.)
I draw anime.
The contents of my iTunes.
I bring a whole wheat bread sandwich to school. (For my diet. There isn't really anything healthy available at the cafeteria.)

You raise a good point Holy Assassin. I also get weird looks when people see my iTunes library because it is a mix of music from 30s-50s and Metalcore, Deathcore/Death Metal.

Yeah it is a good point. My mp3 players music list is very diverse but it is a good thing to listen to different kinds of music. To me if it sounds good I listen regardless of what kind of music it is.You can just feel slightly smug knowing that anyone who has a one track (by that I mean type of music not track track) playlist is missing out on all the great kinds of music out there.

I don't get why it is such a social oddity to refuse and alcoholic beverage. I don't like to drink, big deal.

I agree 110% Those are not the only types of music I listen to but those are the first they see and give me weird looks for.

Still surely at a party you are drinking something though even if it is not alcoholic? Like juice or something?

If I absolutely must, I take the cup, take a sip or two (or just pretend to take a sip, if I'm really not in the mood at all), then just pour it in a plant later. Then piss off for a while before showing up again and refusing any more because "I've already had too much." :P

I'm far too busy doing what I'm doing, when I am doing it and where I am doing it, to notice if someone is looking at me with a strange look.

Now don't you dare look at me with a strange look just because I said doing four times in the same sentence.

Of course, I usually drink Coca-Cola. I meant when someone offers me something alcoholic.

If I absolutely must, I take the cup, take a sip or two (or just pretend to take a sip, if I'm really not in the mood at all), then just pour it in a plant later. Then piss off for a while before showing up again and refusing any more because "I've already had too much."

Good strategy, but I am known by everyone as "That edge guy" so that wouldn't pay off in the long run.

Honestly, (not that this is necessarily my opinion) its that people that don't drink tend to be stuck up and boring who act like they're better than anyone else who give crap explanations as to why they don't (medical issues being the only acceptable one here).

Of course, this should only offend you if you're stuck up and boring, which I'm sure you're not.

EDIT: To put it in the more blunt words of Jim Jeffries:

"If you don't drink you're a boring [censored] and all your stories svck. They all end the same way with 'and then I got home!' No one cares that you've been promoted at work and that you're kids don't have bruises. You ask someone why they don't drink and they all come up with the same thing 'I don't like the taste of it!' Nobody does! No one has ever had a shot of tequila and gone 'ooh that was lovely! I think I'll have that instead of pudding next time, its so moreish!' We drink 'cos we [censored] have to!"
