Having a hard time getting to sleep

Post » Mon Jul 04, 2011 3:42 pm

I haven't been able to get to sleep until about 1 or 2 lately, and I have to get up around 7 or 8 each morning. I know that might be a lot of sleep for a lot of you, but for me it's not. Is there any boring documentary, or relaxing music video that anyone knows about that could help me catch up with my Zs? Much appreciated to those that reply!

Netflix just added all the Star Trek series to instant view.

you might try watching The Next Generation - I think I had never watched the pilot episode or the first season before, it was interesting. (and I quickly fell asleep while watchin)

Try http://www.soothetube.com/, as well as check out the whisper community on Youtube (Just type in "relaxing whisper" into the search or something, you'll get loads). Lots of stuff designed to help one sleep. Whispercrystal is one of my favorites. her voice.

Here's the thing, if you use laptop's TV etc you will take longer ot get ot sleep. Best course of action is to turn them off at at least 11 then do something else for a bit before sleep.....aka a book or some simple chores.

You also might be active enoguh during the day, if you arent getting enough excersize it impacts your sleep.

SO thats the best stratergy.....turn off the electronics an hour before you want ot be sleep by, and try to work in more excersize into your day.

Melatonin. If I don't take 10mg there's no way I'll get to sleep before 3 or 4. If I do I can be out by 11:30.

It is going on with me but I get up at 6 in the morning each time. Watching TV seems to work. Well it causes me to pass out but I'm still really lacking sleep. Last night could not sleep until 3:00am found myself watching Canadian Pickers almost all night.

Note: Get some air run around, work out and get tired. It allways workes youll sleep like a rock!

If you have a dog then there, walk them, play with them! You both will get what you both need. They are after all mans best friend!

Lemme punch you in the face, if it doesn't knock you unconscious it'll at least amuse me.

Whipsercrystal is one of my favorites as well. Im taking a break for awhile though so I don't become immune to her videos! haha

thanks all. except the drugs. I will never take sleep drugs unless I am sick. but thanks for giving the input.

I might try to get more exercise later on, but that won't help for tonight. haha

It's a lot of personal preference. What works with someone might not work for others. Some people like to listen to music to sleep. I know that I can't, because music from my iPod is the alarm I wake up to. I like to watch TV to make me sleepy, though I don't like to fall asleep with it running. Reading a book is often a good way for me to get to sleep, though occasionally if the part I'm at is really engaging and can't-put-it-down good, it can keep me up until dawn. Experiment around, see what works for you, and if all else fails you can buy sleep meds.

I just tried to watch some video on taxidermy. The music was good enough to fall asleep to, but I'm pretty the images on the screen just woke me up a little more.

1. Ban caffeine after midday
2. Get some exercise, especially anything that gets you fresh air - but do not do anything strenuous in the evenings
3. Don't go to bed too hungry or too full. A light snack in the early/mid-evening is a good idea - but nothing sugary. Something like a couple of crackers with cheese spread on them, or maybe a piece of fruit (but not apples or bananas because those wake you up)
4. Try valerian-and-hops herbal tablets. They don't so much make you fall asleep as stop you caring that you can't, so you just relax and drift off
5. Don't go to bed before you're tired, but do go to bed as soon as you feel drowsy. If you really can't sleep, get a reading light and read something relaxing. NOT the forums! You won't get to sleep if you're just lying there thinking about the last conversation you had and thinking, "Jeez, what a JERK!"

I use melatonin to help me get to sleep (my problem was that my brain wouldn't shut up and let me sleep) . Two 5mg time-release tablets do the job for me.

Triptophan might help as well.

It is found in turkey, and partly responsible for Thanksgiving day food comas.

*Shrug* Read in your bed - preferably something not too engrossing, wanting to know the rest will keep you awake. Make it so you just have to extend your hand to turn off the light when you start nodding off. That's what works for me.

And you need to do that earlier. If you potter about till 1AM, you'll never reset your sleep-clock.

Audiobook.

Exercise through the day, if possible, helps a lot.
