Having Trouble Against Groups of High Level Draugr

Post » Thu Jun 07, 2012 7:32 pm

1. Use your shield whenever the draugr open his mouth
2. Conjure something to distract the draugr
3. Use your shout first before him

Im using nord, full daedric armor, 1 hand sword, and 1 shield (daedric too)

So, yes, the high level draugr is hard to beat.

My tips? just 3 on the above.

i usually use the number 3.

I dont really suggest the number 1

because, even my legendary daedric shield still make me fly arround because of that draugr's shout

I remember getting tossed around like a ragdoll at the end of skuldafn by a bunch of deatlords using unrelenting force, especially annoying because they kept shouting me off buildings and down stairs which would one hit kill me, pretty much the only tough encounter I had on that character on master. The way I got past it was to use storm call + summoned dremora lords to distract them, I then tried to stay back for a bit and pick off a few with a bow before rushing in and taking out the rest.

Hey all. So I am having some problems when I encounter groups of high level Draugrs that are all using unrelenting shout, which has been happening a fair amount in end-game dungeon crawling. Other than ducking and covering, is there a way to make oneself less susceptible to the shout? My armor is above cap (567, right?) and all that good stuff, yet I am literally sometimes just entering a room and stuck in rag-doll limbo until I am dead from arrows and strikes. I'm all for the game being hard when it's meant to, but I feel like getting tossed around without being able to defend almost automatically is something else entirely. Anyone know of anything that helps make you less susceptible to the rag-doll effect of the shout? I wasn't sure it Paarthurnax's Fus meditation helped out with this- has anyone tested that? Or anything else? Thanks!

After choosing Paarthurnax's Fus buff I no longer experienced the rag doll effect when hit with an enemy fus-ro-da. I just took my light armor warrior through the temple last night. Although he is a warrior he does use the alteration line, so paralyze was pretty invaluable through the encounter. One other invaluable tool, that you should have at your disposal, that I utilized was the time slow shout. If I was out of mana, and could not get a paralyze off I would time slow as soon as I saw the enemy puff up for the Fus. Usually I could close the distance before they got the shout off, but if not I could see, and easily dodge, the shockwave.

Spoiler
My first experience getting tossed around by consecutive fus-ro-da’s was the Gauldar (sp?) amulet encounter, prior to finding Paarthurnax. I would get caught in a constant loop of getting knocked around, take two arrows, and die. I avoided that using pillars as LOS. Ideally I would get all the draugr’s attention immediately and they would fus-ro-da all at once, so then I could freely rock them for a good 30-45 seconds before the next wave of shouts.

I know lots of others have given you many great suggestions, so I just wanted to add another option in case you hadn't found a tactic suitable for your character.

Honestly, I think that encounter in Skuldafn is the hardest in the game, so I doubt you'll have any trouble from now on.

Yeah, that one's brutal. After getting repeatedly killed I finally took the easy way out with an invisibility potion. Then I was able to finish that particular sequence of events in about 4 minutes.

I'm still confused; I have, once, been ragdolled by UF, by a Dragon Priest. This is at 46, so it might change at 50. If difficulty doesn't change it, what does effect the incidence of ragdolling?

Thanks again all for even more good ideas. I was totally unaware that wards and spellbreaker worked again shouts, so that will definitely come in handy, and ice forming is an interesting idea as well. I got through the first after a few tries, it was just getting annoying and I was curious if there was a way to lessen the whole ragdoll thing- I wound up just giving them a taste of their own medicine and UFing them off the temple lol. I am gonna go meditate on Fus and see if that has a big impact or not, but I don't know if I will find another encounter like that one that will be a true test, as I have already done the amulet quest where the archers keep shouting you down as well.

@http://www.gamesas.com/user/724820-bobjim123/- yeah, definitely should have included my build- my bad! I am mainly a heavy armor two hand user that uses destruction magic for range and am also pretty good with alteration and bound weapons, with a touch of restoration.

@Those who haven't seen this effect in action much- the only two places that it is noticeable and is difficult is outside of Skuldafn in the main quest and during the archer boss in the Gauldor Amulet quest, so you may see it in effect when you are at those spots. In normal fights with Draugrs, I hardly even get knocked down by their UFs, it just the nature of these fights is alot more open with alot more Draugr using the shout, so it appears to cause it to happen more often. Maybe you'll breeze through the fights anyways if you got your mechanics down for a fight like this, but at least you'll be prepared now just in case ;-)

-On difficulty- no it doesn't make you more susceptible to the ragdoll effect (as far as I know) but it does make you take more damage, which means you have a high chance of dying to those arrows and such that are hitting you while your character is still getting up, so it does certainly play a roll. Just something to think about. I am just stubborn and refuse to turn it down- just another challenge to be bested!
