really enjoying the game so far but i cant seem to figure how to get a destruction spell in my right hand and keep the shield in my left. When I go to the spells menu and equip it on my 'R', its fine, however when I try to do this from my favorites >> hotkeys, it always defaults my fireball to my left hand and keeps my sword in my right. What am I doing wrong? I turned off xbox controller and console related stuff in my settings but not sure if that causing any issues.

Are you clicking the mouse button associated with the hand you want the spell in?

Left click = right hand, right click = left hand.

Edit, when you click on the item/spell in your favorites menu, you have to use the mouse button you want it equipped on like you do in the menus.

yes its fine when i click on it from the menu, it goes to left hand when i click my hot key for that spell.

when i click with my left mouse button in favorites it always goes to my right hand (sword hand)

ok yes it does, now try hot-keying say 'fireball' to 4 for example and then hit 4...it will go to left hand. Im not talking about clicking on it from your favorites, im talking about mapping it to a hot-key and then pressing that hot-key.
