I heard about the STEED STONE bug and now I have it

Post » Sun May 27, 2012 4:48 am

A while back I heard there was a bug with the STEED STONE blessing.

I just chose the STEED STONE and now I have that bug.

Here's what happens to me (so far): When I die from battle, the game will reload as if there was no STEED STONE blessing. It flashes the message "You are carrying too much weight and cannot run". This happens everytime on the auto reload and when reloading from the reload screen.

My temporary fix and workaround is to exit the game and restart it. So far this has worked ... but ... what a waste of game playing extra time it is!!! Everyone who plays Skyrim know how mant times one dies while playing the game!!! So this is a BIG TIME ... literally ... problem.

Please fix this soon.

Anyone else with this bug?

Just open up your inventory after reloading and it will recalculate encumbrance with the blessing.

Thanks for the reply.

I thought did this when I checked to see my weight being carried and I saw that it said 588/600 in the weight part at the bottom of the screen. I did drop some things and it worked. I'll have to check what happens if I pick those things back up.

The problem is when loading, especially quickloading, the game doesn't properly flush all its variables. Like for a sneaky character if you quickload after getting detected and owned, you'll find they might instantly detect you.

So with anything that makes your armor weight 0 (Steed Stone or perk), and you're near your carry limit, you need to either go into the inventory or ready/unready your weapons. Both will trigger the function that re-checks your speed.

In fact there's a fun bug with readying/unreadying -- when you ready or unready you move at normal speed for 1 second even overencumbered, so you can constantly ready/unready to jerk yourself along at normal speed.

Also, drawing back your bow will mysteriously increase your speed if you're set to walk or overencumbered.

You shouldn't load a save without exiting the game first anyway. That leads to savegame corruption.

I have always loaded saved games. Billions of times. Morrowind, Oblivion, FallOut 3, NewVegas, and Skyrim. There has never been a problem.

Sounds like you might have some bad or failing RAM or hard drive or something if you are having problems. Have you run Memtest+ lately?

He's half-right. When you load a save in a game, like I said, data from your previous save doesn't get flushed properly. So when you save again, all this old, irrelevant data can go in there too, leading to bloat and possibly corruption.

I personally never had it happen in any of the Bethesda games, though, even though I abuse the hell out of quicksave/load.

Seems the "arm/unarm" weapon thing can quickly fix the auto reload after death bug with the Steed Stone. Still, this really should be fixed in a patch since I would think that the Steed Stone would be one of the more popular choices.
