Depends on which of my array of Dragonborns we're talking about. I like to RP, so each will marry a different spouse (except my Khajiit, who probably won't marry). They will adopt and settle differently as well.

For instance, my Dunmer lives in Solitude, with her ex-blacksmith husband, Balimund. The latter is talking shop with Beirand, who just did some shoeing at Katla's farm. He hears about the orphaned lad working the stables there and tells his wife. She makes a few arrangements with the sreward, then finds the boy and offers to give him a real home. A Hearthfire heartwarmer.

My other Dragonborns will, with luck, have similar tales to tell.

Braggen has done this 3 times now, but he has been married ages to Iona, who the sod made a vampire like himself.
1. Dorthe and Meeko the home wrecking mutt. (Heljarchen Hall, later moved to Windstad Manor)
2. Dorthe and Francois (Lakeview Manor)
3. Dorthe and Alesan (Lakeview Manor, soon to move to Herjarchen Hall)

Aussie can find no one she wants to marry, since none of the ones she liked are the marrying kind but she went and adopted Sofie the little flower seller from Windhelm, and set up house in Lakeview Manor. She might return to one of the towns once she has her family organised and a husband to look after the dears when she is not there.

I married Argis, the housecarl from Markarth, and i adopted Francois and Samuel from the orphanage. We lived first in Whiterun, but after i completed the Dawnguard questline we moved to Lakeview Manor, they're not gonna stay there for long though cause i bought the Pale property and got Celann from Dawnguard as my steward! But shouldn't there be a dialogue option from the spouse asking how the kids are doing? I haven't gotten that up at all.

I'm guessing the extra NPC interactions and stewardship options are dependent on which voice actors came back for Hearthfire, so it appears that Argis/Farkas (and other characters voiced by the same person) can't be made steward, nor offer extra dialogue options. It's unfortunate.

I adore Celann. I married Marcurio (no kids yet on my current save, but have adopted Blaise, Lucia and Alesan previously) and would love to have Celann as steward... but he does have the same voice as Marcurio, so I'm wondering if it would get a little weird with both in the same house.

The only thing Celann will say is "That much fewer vampires to worru about. Good work!". He says this everytime i approach him or initiate conversation, :P haven't moved anyone else in yet. Hopefully it will change a bit then. :)

I haven't finished Dawnguard yet on this save... doesn't sound ideal, though, I rather like it when he cycles through the generic greetings like Marcurio used to pre-marriage: Divines smile on you/Good morning/Good afternoon... And he doesn't get huffy about being a pack mule either :)

If I ever get the DLC, I have a sort of idea on who marries/adopts who.

My Dunmer lives in Solitude, married Balimund, and intends to adopt Blaise (Constance's note suggested looking close to home) and one other.

My Imperial lives in Riften, but is likely to move to Falkreath. No wife yet, the only woman he spent much time with was Iona, and he sent her off to join the Blades. But I'd like him to get married at some point. Since he's right near Honorhall, I think he'll adopt a kid from there, since he's seen them around. Probably Runa, she seems like a sweetheart.

My Nord can only live in Morthal, since it's the only place she's thane of (and she's a poor fighter). She'll marry her handsome bodyguard Marcurio, but jury's still out on who she adopts.

And my Khajiit? If he builds a house, he can do the Pale. But he requires a female Khajiit for nookie. If Aventus ever becomes adoptable, he might take the boy on as an apprentice.

Braggen (4th playthrough)
Wife - Iona
Children - Dorthe and Blaise
Pet - rabbit

Aussie (2nd playthrough)
Single mum - apparently no one in all of Skryim wants to marry her for some reason, maybe because she is a werewolf?
Children - Sophie and Lucia
Pets - Bran and a rabbit

Currently both characters are at Heljarchen Hall, although Aussie is annoyed her grain mill refuses to work so is thinking of moving again.

The explanation of Sammy the Skeever can be found in http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1413773-sammy-the-skeever/. Fair warning, it’s in the spoilers section. He’s not the pet that your kid might bring home.

My character Mikke of Green River adopted Sofie and Alesan. She recently married Roggi Knot-Beard. They live at Windstad Manor, or as Roggi calls it, the Ghost Marsh Meadery.

Awwwww... why should that matter? Yes, your wife might chew your head off and svck out your intestines like linguini. But if you REALLY love each other...

1st playthough:
Spouse: Vilkas
Kids: Lucia and Blaise
Steward: Cosnach (I adore that man)
Housecarl: Gregor

I've had no luck finding/figuring out where to make wooden swords, so I gave my kids dwarven daggers. Parent of the year award, here.

Edit: I dragged Cosnach all the way out to the Pale only to discover you can't give him stewardship. Jenassa, either. Marcurio it is, then. -_- I picked Grobash(?) the Iron Handed for my Falkreath steward. Something about a no-nonsense Orc warrior being the perfect guy to haggle over livestock.
