Is Hearthfire worth the money?

Post » Sat Nov 17, 2012 1:43 am

A simple question really, as to whether or not you believe Hearthfire to be worth the 400 Microsoft Points it costs (which isn't much really). I never took a particular interest into crafting, so haven't picked it up yet. However, it would be cool from a role-playing perspective and my simply love for this game has left me with a perhaps odd desire to simply buy every piece of DLC Bethesda could possibly release.

I like the Dlc alot since it's not only about building, you have 1 mini quest and adopt 2 kids and 2 animal. I say it's worth buying it.

Yes it is worth the money. It's only 5 bucks, yet it does add a substantial amount of new content to the game, not just the ability to build houses. I won't spoil, though.

Is it compatible with existing saves?

Insofar as the house building goes, no, I wouldn't recommend it for that. It's okay, but after the first house, the appeal to build the other two is lost if only to see what the other options would look like.

If you RP as a married player, adoption makes the purchase worthwhile. At least, it did for me. The DLC offers stone quarries, which can be sold (but not the clay) for 1g each. There's a few new store items, but they're related to the construction only (straw, glass, and goat horns).

The adoption option (lol) also allows players with homes already purchased in game to upgrade to a child's room, which is awesome if they want a family while building their new home.

If none of these is interesting, then the answer is "no". But if you're a completionist, then the DLC costs less than the #4 at McDs. Sacrifice a meal for something you won't crap out in two hours. ;)

Actually, it takes 24-48 hours for your body to process a meal.
But I agree otherwise. Badly as I want to build Dovahkiin Manor, I'd pay the five clams just for the adoption system.

Yes, it's well worth the money but try it out on a new game or make sure you have backups of your existing games in case things go awry.

In addition to the reasons mentioned above, your Dovahkiin can expand their cooking skills and bake bread and pies!

$5? You can't get much for $5 these days, not a single novel, not more than a couple of (large) Starbuck's coffees. I'd say it would have to be worthless to not be worth $5, and it's definitely NOT worthless.

It's worth the money!
I love that little DLC and put hours and hours into it.
It keeps me playing Skyrim and that is worth a few coins. ;)

It's definitely worth it ($5/£3.49 isn't a lot of money).
Although the house-building aspect certainly wears thin pretty quickly, as all three are the same bar one feature (apiary / fishery / grain mill) and lack any real customisation, the updated food models, new recipes and adoption mechanic will probably give you about $5 of entertainment, if not more.

YES.
the adopted kids' behaviour alone is worth it. they are quite fleshed out and do some funny things. like adopting mudcrabs. and arguing with each other.
plus the houses are neat, they give you a little freedom to customize a part of the world.
