Heavy Armor?

Post » Fri Jun 08, 2012 10:34 pm

I was plaing as a Nord warrior, when i reached level 46 and started to get dwemer armor ebony, deadric and so on.
I fond that my Nord just didnt fit into Skyrim because all the bandits wear leather, fur, steel, etc. It made me stand out
way to much. So i switched it up a bit and started wearin common clothes. dual weilding to Skimitars.
Now I find I fit in much better. Like i belong in skyrim makes the game harder no doubt, but now it doesn't look as
ridiculous as a guy wearing as much defence as the walls of Solitude.

I guess My question is, anyone else feel this way?

Well with smithing you can make the low level armor still be feasable at higher levels. I think the higher level armors do a good job of making you feel unique, after all you are doing things no one else is so you should have a unique look.

I wear steel plate armor and fit in just fine. Dwemer will make you stand out, of course, but then you're an adventurer, and admittedly might well stand out anyway. Orcish does look exotic, but still "fits" in Skyrim as sort of "foreign-looking" armor. Ebony doesn't at all look bad, but think of it as armor that only the wealthy and powerful in Skyrim might have, not the common guard or even the common adventurer.

Daedric is another thing, of course. While yes, it certainly stands out and looks somewhat otherworldly, think of it as armor most people wouldn't wear. You have to use a demon's heart, after all, along with ingots of ebony, a rare item, to create Daedric items. Treat Daedric armor and weapons as unique and unholy magic items, even if not enchanted, strictly speaking - the character is wielding demon-possessed armor and weapons, after all! So, as example, my current character, a Nord Warrior-type at level 43, who is in the Companions and who doesn't deal with Daedra and Necromancers and all that - he wears steel plate and an ancient Nord helmet. He'd never wear Daedric, and when he finds any necromancy-related items he takes them and stores them away to keep them out of the hands of the bad guys.

My next character, however, will basically be Sauron Jr.: a heavy-armor-wearing, one-handed-weapon-wielding, flame-spell-shooting Necromancer who smiths and enchants his own weapons and (preferably unholy) armor. He'll wear Daedric as soon as he can get his hands on it.

To your point good sir but everything you do there is indeed someone else doing it as well. fighting dragons for example, have you not seen guards, villagers, Khajiit Caravans doing this as well?
Even giants and they are pretty much naked. lol

Actually if more people felt this way, we would have a lot less of those threads about balance spawn up every day.

Pending the RPing of my char, I like the look of the high end armor (Ebony/Daedric). After 5 playthroughs, currently on my 6th and over 1000 hrs logged, I have never put more that 3 perks in Heavy or Light Armor. I done it on my 2nd and 3rd char, but since have yet to invest anymore. This leaves me free to wear what is fitting for my current char.

The nice thing about this game is you can play anyway you want. Also, self gimping a character has always been the way to bring back a challenge at high character levels. 46 is close to the point where most have maxed out their combat and armor skills and they are more than up to any enemy the game throws at them. Every TES game but Oblivion has been this way.

At this point, you have 3 choices:

1. Make a new character, the game is meant to be played with different characters.
2. Use a different weapon and or armor combo. Or, no armor as you have.
3. Change your attack style to magic if you have been using weapons, or vice versa.

Me, I just bask in the ease at which I dispatch my foes as I have earned those skills.

I think it makes a lot of sense, and it probably makes the game more fun. I have changed up my Orc's armor a few times, I think I will end up settling on Orcish (strangely enough).

I hear you but you never fell like a Power house going into a battle with bandits? It seems to me like my warrior as an handicap. Now tho wearing simple tavern cloths my nord is just a regular
Nord riseing up to do the unthinkable.

But they do not seek dragons like you the dragonborn does! When they fight it is only because they where attacked. As for doing what I do I have seen few stand beside me as a dragon priest erupts from his tomb, or as I delve into falmer infested ruins.

I am a powerhouse, but not to the extent that the game has no challenge. If there were no challenge - I'm only playing on Adept - I'd raise the difficulty to Expert, and if that wasn't enough, to Master.

As far as "gimping" goes, I don't believe in it. Players shouldn't have to manufacture the challenge of the game by playing with one hand behind their back, by choosing significantly weaker armor or weapons. There should be no armor or weapons in the game that make you too powerful to the point that even if you jack the difficulty up to Master, the game's too easy.

But in my case that hasn't been a problem. I've got an armor rating in the four hundreds, and about 350 health, but the game still bears a challenge. I can shrug off common bandits and wolves and such, but dragons and bosses and serious mages can still present a real challenge.

My current character is an Argonian warrior. Just by being a lizard man, he already looks quite outlandish, so exotic armors like daedric and ebony don't look that out of place on him.

I'm only putting 1/5 perks for the two handed skill, and heavy armor skill. I mean the first perk in the skill tree. I think I'll be able to wear good armor and use nice weapons without becoming a god. Right now I'm level 33 with full ebony epic including ebony mail and I'm around 265 in armor rating. My heavy armor skill is 67 so I'll end up around 330 or so when all is said and done. More then enough.

Sorry i should have mention i have more than on character. I have a level 51 Khajiit wears hide armor witch suits just fine
And an Argonion level 17 two handed currently Orcish Armor. witch suits because the orcs wear it and i run into them often with this guy for some reason

Gimping, I dont mind it tho. Kinda looks like Sinbad lol you have a Nord you should give it a go, throw on some civis and head to a dungeon. see what you think of it?

Im no bandit, I want the fanciest crap imaginable. Im glad its not like oblivion where every bandit and thief has full glass or ebony or daedric armor. That was silly.

If I follow what the OP is saying. Then aye, I get like this sometimes too.

I don't really like to stand out too much, which is why I've decided not to wear anything that makes me stick out like a sore thumb - well at least until my character has made a name for himself.
When it comes to Daedric armor however, I refuse to wear it. Not only is it ugly, I just can't think of a reason why my Nord Warrior would wear it. He'd sooner settle for some good sky-forged steel than some magical-glowing-gothic-scrap-metal that the Daedric has going on!
I've recently started a second stealth character, who I'm going to keep in leather/studded leather gear until he joins one of the guilds far into the future. (Might take smithing purely for the enhancements/weapons)
Until then. He's just another nameless face in the crowd.

My Ranger runs around in Leather, and My Warrior in Iron. I feel the same way, and I've been that way in all of TES games, I just can't stand flashy looking armor.

I stuck with Steel and Steel Plate for this very reason. Once you get to a certain level in the game, it doesn't matter what heavy armour you wear, it maximises.

I haven't tried light armour as my character is more of a heavy type of guy.
