ED-E, HELIOS, and Ignacio

So initially, I decide to follow through with the ED-E quest and go talk to the old woman at Gibson, but surprise surprise, it doesn't work, so I look up the quest, and not only do I see spoilers that practically ruin the quest for me, but I realize that by talking to her earlier (from Come Fly With ME [Great job by the way, Bethesda; pigeon-holing me into causing a glitch]), I've initiated a glitch that removes the necessary dialogue option. So back to the Vault Wiki I go to see if I still have a chance at this quest and find that this guy at HELIOS-1, Ignacio can initiate the quest as well. So I stroll on up to HELIOS-1, and what do you know? He won't provide the dialogue option either. I look at some yahoo answers questions to see that you need to ask him about ARCHIMEDES, but wouldn't you know it, that option isn't available, so I figure I need to do That Lucky Old Sun. Anyway, I get to the end of that quest and save before choosing a power designation. I choose the correct option first, and return to Fantastic to complete the quest, but Ignacio still doesn't have the ARCHIMEDES option, so I reload, divert power to ARCHIMEDES II without arming it, but he still doesn't have the damned option. I then proceed on trying every single option, but there is never a change in Ignacio's dialogue options. Furthermore, I read on Vault Wiki that I'm supposed to get rewards from the guy too based on certain decisions, but of course that's not happening.

Now I can understand a glitch or two. I've had radscorpions shoot out of walls and witnessed guards' heads poking out of the pavement, but honestly, I have one quest that I can't even properly start and another that won't properly end. Has anyone encountered these problems, especially the ED-E problems before.

360 by the way.

to get rewards from Ignacio you have to tell him in your first conversation that you woont use the power plant as a weapon, if you choose this route he'll also talk about HELIOS one.

I actually got ED-E's first dialogue walking around the Brotherhood of steel complex from some random converstation that happened nearby....so there are a few triggers for it.

I used a console command (PC) to get the first dialogue. After that it seems you can use any of the conversations to progress. Personally it was the Quartermaster a Camp Forlorn Hope that did it.

And I didn't recieve a reward from the sun quest either. I chose the "power all of the places" option. I've since gone back and can select to arm Archimedes for some reason, but that pisses off the NCR since their troopers get burned. Oops.

I had the same problem. I didn't picked up ED-E until very late in the game because I didn't look up wiki and that sort of stuff so I've already used up all the dialogues to trigger his personal quest but I guess it is the way it was designed.

Here's the thing though. I got ED-E pretty early, as in I hadn't even started the HELIOS-1 quest yet. So just by inadvertently choosing an incorrect dialogue option with Ignacio, I destroyed my chance to do the ED-E quest?

Wonderful. Now I have to wait until I get to the Brotherhood of Steel. This quest was designed very poorly in my opinion, leaving room for such a stupendous glitch at Gibson scrap yard. Honestly, didn't this ever come up in beta testing, that for some reason, if you talked to the old lady too early, ED-E's quest wouldn't work?

In order to avoid the Gibson glitch in the future then, I'd literally have to play quests in a certain order and make certain decisions to get certain quests to play out, glitch free. Thank you, Bethesda, for turning one of my favorite open-ended RPG series into a linear experience where you need to walk on eggshells to avoid fundamental problems.

A little knowledge is a dangerous thing. There's no glitch by talking to the old lady early. That is just one way to do this quest. He responds to keywords from various individuals, not specifically the ones mentioned in the wiki.

I got my other quests messed up, "Guess Who I Saw Today" and "For Auld Lang Syne". I didn't finish the "Guess Who I Saw Today" then I went to talk with the Doctor guy and he won't talk to me about the quest anymore.
Now I can't finish either of them, "Guess Who I Saw Today" dissapeared from the quest list and now I can't get it back. Does this mean I need to start the game over to get these quests or will there be an update?

Wrong.

If you talk to Old Lady Gibson and go through all the dialog before you have ED-E, she will no longer trigger the log. Go speak with Ignacio Rivas instead.

You can still trigger it by speaking to Dr. Hildern about V22, and there are a couple of other possibilities as well.

FWIW, I got ED-E as a companion right away on my most recent character and then headed to the Scrapyard, and Old Lady Gibson's dialogue did not prompt the playback of a recording from ED-E. My previous character had the quest start with Dr. Hildern and then went to the Scrapyard and nothing resulted, however I suspect that she only has a trigger for the first entry. The current character managed to trigger the second recording, although I do not remember what did it.

In case it matters, I talked to Mrs. Gibson in her shack rather than outside and in the middle of the night. Not that I think the time matters, but I thought I'd mention it just in case.
