To hell with enchantment

Post » Thu Jun 14, 2012 4:01 am

I don't know what else to do. I've tried and done everything in my power to try and get my enchantments higher, but I feel like I'm getting nowhere!

I'm using a full set of Dragonscale armor. I'm putting health regen on my Chest armor, I'm putting one handed weapons do (whatever amount) I'm putting sneaking on my boots and I'm using the Jagged Crown I've used Blacksmiths elixir and blacksmiths Philter and I still can't get them any higher....

Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Get what higher? Your armor rating? I don't understand your question.

The strength of the enchantments, I would assume.

Ah...Well then. It seems that the OP is enchanting the gear and trying to increase the enchantments by using the Blacksmithing Skill?

perseverance pays off in the end. I'm level 43 and just hit 100 in enchanting. I have finally replaced my Ebony Mail with something a bit more to my style...I've been using it for 13 levels now.

Disenchant everything that comes your way, even if you think you won't ever use it, it's still experience in enchanting. Find and fill all the soul gems you find. enchant every ring, necklace, piece of armor...whatever it takes to level up that skill. It will pay off in the end...and perks too, take every perk you think you might be using.

I'm not reading that the OP is trying to increase the Enchantment Skill, but rather the Enchantments themselves.

Exactly. Higher than what?

Without numbers your question is meaningless ...

Seems that op has been a bit vague on that. You may be right, just thought I'd add my 2 pennies worth to the subject.

Your enchants on weapons and armor don't increase once you've enchanted them (if I'm understanding correctly). Once you enchant something that's it. For instance, if you enchant a piece of armor with a Destruction buff at 10%, then it's always going to be 10%. You'll have to up your enchanting skill and create another enchantment on another piece of armor in order get a better percentage.

And of course soul gem type matters.

Go soultrap as many things as you can and then enchant every single weapon (or piece of apparel) you loot. Then sell them. Rinse and repeat many, many times and your enchanting skill will skyrocket.

IDK, BF...we need some more info from the OP. It could be either...or neither.

Well, if you're drinking smithing potions in the hope of making stronger enchantments, that would be it right there.

To make stronger enchantments, you need to have a higher enchantment skill, and/or more enchantment perks, and/or potions that fortify your enchanting skill when you do the actual enchanting.

Drinking smithing potions will only affect your skill in improving the damage/armor ratings of your gear when you take it to a grindstone or workbench. They will not have any affect on how strong an enchantment is when you enchant gear, and they won't make an existing enchantment stronger if you improve it a smithing crafting station while under their influence. Not sure what you're actually trying to do with enchanting or enchanted gear, but smithing potions aren't going to help with any of it. :)

I think the OP is trying to increase the enchantment of gear that is already enchanted.

@OP : Enchantment is a one shot deal. It is based on your skill and the size of the gem you are using. If you want better enchanted gear you need new gear.

1. Smithing has absoultuely NO EFFECT on an enchantment's strength.
2. You can't improve an enchantment after you first made it. You're better off making a new one.
3. Increase your enchant skill, either traditionally or via potions. Better the skill, better enchantments will be.
4. Take Enchantment-enhancing perks. Everything on the main body, not the offshoot. That offshoot only affects soulgems and their recharge for weapon enchantmnets. They will NOT help in the creation of new items if you take them.

Blacksmithing and Enchanting are 2 completely different skills. Drinking blacksmithing potions will get you nowhere.

Anyone know anything about the whole Renaming a weapon during enchantment and then cancelling the enchant and keeping the name change? Heard about it and would like to know more

The potions I drank was for enchanting not smithing. That was my mistake!

... And yes that's what I'm trying to do is increase the power of the enchantment that I'm using!

And for the enchanting tree I have the whole right side maxed out I don't use fire, frost, nor shock on weapons because IMO they svck!

I can't get my armor past 42% using Health Regen, I can't get my boots past 30% using sneak. and I can't get my Gauntlets past 27% using one-handed weapons. Unless I'm using the wrong things on my armor!

I assume you mean the middle. with 5/5 Enchanter, Insightful Enchanter and Corpus Enchanter. That is seven (7) perks in Enchanting, and least a skill level of 80.

That, PLUS using Grand or Black soul gems and using potions on top of that, you should be making some powerful equipment.

However, you CANNOT improve the enchantments of gear that is already Enchanted. You MUST make new gear.

These things will make a specific enchantment more powerful:

1) Increase your enchanting skill (the same enchantment will be weaker if you do it at 20 Ench, than if you did it at 80 Ench)
2) Having the applicable perk (Fire perk will make your Fire enchants, both damage and resistance, stronger)
3) using a larger soul (Grand soul will make a stronger enchantment than a Lesser soul)
4) temporary boosts (enchanting potions)

The quality of the item you're enchanting (Dragonscale boot vs Leather boot; basic vs improved) has no effect.

disclaimer: at least, this is how I understand it.

I know to use grand gems. I know I have to remake the armor to put enchantments back on it! I was just lost on the whole making them stronger. Because I have been through all my skills tree. I have everything maxed except for alchemy, illusion, conjuration, destruction, restoration, and alteration and that's what I'm working on now.

I made a character based on Combat, not spells and what not! But I really like the direction I've went with it I'm just trying to learn magic now to have everything incase I want to use it! Because I've been using destruction and I actually love it!!!

Better fortify enchanting potions is the only way to get better than grand soul, 100 enchanting and all perks, without exploits. The elixirs and Philtres you can buy fall well short of what you can potentially make yourself.
