Help, can't get quests from markarth steward

Post » Sun Jun 03, 2012 2:55 am

The old geezer raerek won't give me any quests, and thus i can't find a way to make the house purchaseable. Is there anything i can do to fix this?

Talk to the Jarl.

I believe you also need to be L30+ for the Jarl to give the quest related to his ancestors (which needs to be completed to buy a house).

Talk to the Jarl.

I tried obviously, he doesnt give me any quests, tells me he won't sell me the house, and to talk to his steward. I go to talk to the steward and he doesn't say anything, just gives canned dialogue. And I'm well above level 30, I'm 42 at this point.

Have you done all the quest to become a thane?

What quests do you mean? The Jarl won't give any quests so I can't get that ancestor shield quest thingy, unless the thane quests are something different?

Maybe this si your problem?

After completing http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:The_Forsworn_Conspiracy and http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:No_One_Escapes_Cidhna_Mine you may not be able to buy this house because there will be no dialogue option to do something for the Jarl of Markarth. If you had completed those two quests before you were level 20, there is a way how to buy the house. Duringhttp://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Main_Quest (quest http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Season_Unending), http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:General_Tullius and http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Ulfric_Stormcloak fight about exchanging some territories including Markarth. If the Stormcloaks take http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:The_Reach eventually, http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Thongvor_Silver-Blood becomes the Jarl of Markarth and he will offer you becoming a Thane and the possibility of buying a house in Markarth.

Looking at my game guide, it says that you need to do Favors for the citizens, then quest(s) for the jarl before coming Thane.

Good luck.

PS: Looking some more at the guide, there are 7 Favors that are available (all quests).

You must be level 20 before being given the quest to get the shield.

Chances are there are more variables involved with this particular bug. I too did those quests and was high level by the time the Jarl gave me an option to buy the house. Perhaps I had already excepted the ancestral quest from the jarl before completing both of those other quests and thus stil having a reason to talk to him.

Not sure, but something is wrong there and hopefully Bethesda will fix it, luckily the TC was already going to do what seems to solve this problem in the script.

This is true for almost all houses, you need to be a famous person to be able to buy a house/become a thane. About 5 quests (both side quests and misc quests) need to be done before you have this status. Perhaps if you do a few more quests than the script will give new dialogue to the Jarl. if not than you are lucky that you were going for the stormcloaks anyway, that seems to unlock the right dialogue as well.

The link ji soo posted might also solve the problem, although I didn't do half those quest and I still could buy the house. Still, doing one or two of them might unlike the dialogue you need.
