im trying to break into mercer's house in "the pursuit", but i decided to clear vald of his debt... im following what UESP says about waiting at the back gate for him, the ground-level gate that requires a key near the temple of mara.

he walks over to me, turns his back to me, then eventually walks away... and if i try talking to him, he goes into combat mode, trying to find me to attack... what the hell?!

how am i supposed to help this idiot when its impossible to talk to him?!

im playing as a thief/assassin, so i have no magic spells to calm him, either... HOW CAN I GIVE HIM HIS DAMN DEBT PAPERS?!

This is the last guild I have left doing quests for and I'm really thinking there has been only the minimum of tresting on this game in order to be able to say: "Bu-bu-but ... but we did tests!"

However, as I've read, the issue can be solved by casting a calming spell on him, then talk and proceed like normal. Now how to do that? I'm playing a strict non-magic user and would have to get a scroll or a staff for it. Anyone has an idea where to get one? (I could get the actual spell, but I'd really like to go without it.)

I've completed the Thieves Guild and If i remember rightly the first time I did it I ran up to the gate on the second level bit of the temple of mara and he came running unlocked the gate and started attacking me. I killed him , ...so i reloaded a save went round to the back gate after having cleared his debt and Im sure he started talking to me, then he opened the gate and left allowing me into the house, try reloading is all i can say

Tried several times, he'd always attack me. Sometimes he would even teleport through the gate withough unlocking and opening it jut to attack me. Crazy fellow ...^^

However, I just told myself whatever and bought the spell. The funny thing about it: inside the house, I found a scroll of harmony or whatever it's called in English.

Loooool, you know what annoyed me, Inside Mercer's House, I found Chillrend, that was my favorite weapon in Oblivion haha, hate to imagine how that b****** got his hands on my old characters sword, probably robbed my grave or w.e.....luckily I 'liberated' it and its back in safe hands , hands that look very familiar as my Argonian on Oblivion and Skyrim look the same haha
