Help me enjoy 24, Spooks spoiled me!

Post » Thu Dec 05, 2013 4:39 pm

I started 24 and am finding it hard to sit through. It isn't terrible, but I was spoiled by Spooks (AKA MI-5). I think if the season wasn't so long, I'd enjoy it more.

Can any fans tell me if the future seasons don't drag out as much?

Jack Bauer will tell you all about it. I watched the first episode and was bored out of my mind.

I thought the first 3 episodes of season 1 were good then i just stopped watching it, spooks is great and a hell of alot better than 24, the concept that its 24 hours, if i could do what they do in 24 hours id have an amazing longer life.

Greatest show of all time. I started watching season 2 again last night. Simply brilliant. Season 1 has a lot of focus on his family, where as starting with Season 2, it's more about the threats and the government conspiracies that span the entire series begins.

Feels a bit dated, but I don't mind that. Should finish up season one tonight. I've heard seasons 5, 7, and 8 where excellent.

I can't recall which season it was but the one dealing with Logan is the best of them all. I wanna say it's either 5 or 6.

Yes! The Logan arc is very intense. That actually spans Seasons 4-6, although he does appear in 8 as well. I thoroughly enjoy all seasons.

Also, don't forget the movie that takes place between Seasons 6 and 7. It's a sequel to 6/prequel to 7.

I tried to get into this series. The concept sounds great on paper. I think it was the second or third season where it was an attack at an airport. Anyway, after watching the first two episodes of that series, my suspension of disbelief could not be maintained. There is no way that much stuff could happen in two hours, especially with all the tactical prep that is needed to engage some of these activities.

It would have made more sense to me if the series was called "One Month" or "24 Days", then the pacing of the events could have some semblance of reality.

Well you gotta remember that 24 takes place in a world where the severe Terrorist attacks didn't stop with 9/11. It's not meant to be realistic, it's meant to be fast and full of suspense.

If I could do in 24 hours what these people do in that time, I'd be way ahead in my studies.

Yes, but when they got from one side of LA to another, during rush hour....

Your right, if it was realistic, there would have to be at least 2 episodes where we just get to see the characters while they are in a traffic jam.

I could never take it very seriously, but it was a fun guilty pleasure. Totally over-the-top and unrealistic, yes, but I enjoyed it well enough viewing it as a sort of spy comic book/soap opera. I did get pretty bored with it toward the end when they were just re-using the same devices over and over, though.
