My wife had well over 200 hours into the game when she finally decided to finish the main quest. She needed to trap the dragon in Whiterun. The Jarl said she can't until the peace treaty has been completed.

The trouble was she couldn't get the leaders to sit at the treaty table so she sided with the imperials and completed the civil war.

So, the peace treaty can't be completed and the Jarl of Whiterun is still asking for Ulfic's head on a pike even though he is now dead.

Is there anyway we get reset the main quest without starting an entire new character from scratch.

Help!

We play on a PC and would be OK with using console commands.

Do you have a save before the battle of windhelm?

Save, sadly no. We both only keep the last 3 saves then overwrite. She has continued playing, mostly clean-up as all the other quest lines are done and has overwritten all of her saves at least once.
