Help me pick a console for my brother, please.

Post » Tue Nov 20, 2012 12:04 pm

Well, I've come to the conclusion that my brother just wasn't made for PC gaming... or anything involving a PC for that matter. His birthday is coming up, and I want to get him a console. Wii or WiiU is not an option. He not only doesn't want that, but it's unethical and immoral for me to buy it. Here are some pieces of information that might help you to consider how to help me decide:

He has had multiple white Xbox 360s in the past.
He still has several Xbox 360 games.
He has never owned a PS3, but considered buying one for its Bluray capabilities. Now he has a Bluray player.
He does care for any modernish warfare first-person shooters, or JRPGs. He also doesn't really like WRPGs much, or any sort of racing/sports games. In fact, the only thing I can think of that I know for a fact he enjoys are the Batman games, which he still owns for 360.
I like to spend less money.
He does not play online.
He owns a broken PS2 and quite a few games for PS2 and PS1 that he loves.
He does not want a Kinect or some such nonsense. He does not want a headset.
I like to spend less money than I have to.

With that being said, if I got him a 360, it would have to be a newer black model.

If you have advice to offer, please specify the console, along with the space of the hard drive recommended, etc. along with any games you might recommend I get for him as well.

Bonus: Point me in a good direction for the best deals.

Edit: The console options being PS3 and Xbox 360, if that wasn't apparently clear.

Seems like all the info tells you to buy a new Xbox 360.
Not sure what the question is, it seems very obvious.

Why not google around for some prices?

Too artsy fartsy.
Give him a Super Nintendo.
I already have that, and he's holding it.
I recommend a NEOgeo

I don't really see the obvious connection. I already "googled" around, now I'm asking here for further information.

Since PC and Wii are not an option, and he already owns a bunch of Xbox games.... why not get another Xbox?
Instead of a PS3, which he has no games for.
(that's what I meant by obvious)

Some recommended games, since he enjoyed Batman:
Skyrim
Castlevania: Lords of Shadow
Dark Souls (if he's old enough to appreciate how difficult it is)
Red Dead Redemption
Assassin's Creed (part 2 is my fav)

Hmm... he also has a bunch of PS2 and PS1 games though... I thought PS3 was fully backwards compatible?

I let him play Skyrim on my PC (with nothing but graphical mods installed, and an xbox controller using vanilla UI), and he did surprisingly well, though after walking into a dungeon and having to do a very, very simple lever combination was like, "Yeah, I'm done playing this." I don't know if he would actually want to play it seriously, and he doesn't currently have the internet, so I'm guessing he'd be playing unpatched Skyrim.

I also had talked him into buying RDR, though I had never played it, and he said he had some fun with it but didn't like it in general so he took it back within 3 days. He absolutely hated Castlevania: LoS. He doesn't like Assassin's Creed.

I have no idea if he would like Dark Souls, though. I haven't played it, or even Demon Souls. He might like it, but I don't even know if I would or not, so I can't really make a call there.
