Help solve PS3 problems - fill out the Skyrim Lag Issue Repo

Post » Wed May 16, 2012 3:10 pm

I work as a senior anolyst at the BC Institute of Technology and I have created a Google Form that will capture the most important information regarding the PS3 lag issue within Skyrim.

I would like to capture as much data as possible to see what trends emerge based on platform, play time, file size and lag amount. I will report my findings daily.

Help out the community (and Bethesda!) and fill out the https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dG5GaUtDY1l2TmNpTDliLTZkd0xxMkE6MQ

You are welcome to respond to this message with your own data in order to keep this thread bumped.

Replied. Thank you so much !!!

As some already suggested, I reckon that the save file size do has a positive correlation with the occurrence of the shutter/ lag problem. However, base on my experience, the file size should be a indicator of how much game process hindrance your game currently has. Since not all content in the save file will cause problem(s) to the game processing, therefore some player may play smoothly still with a relatively larger save file size (I believe).

I do think that a few questions are relevant to the anolysis (suggested below):

i) Number of locations unlocked (City / Dungeons / Hold / Total), or if you like, % of the entire map that your player has explored in game
ii) Number of completed & incomplete quests
iii) Approx. no. of items currently hold by the character (in the character / in the house (or equivalent)
iv) Whether you would occasionally reload your previous/ other game save in the same session before you restart your PS3

Sorry that I have made this reply too long, but I guess you may pick one to two relevant question(s) to make your questionnaire become more informative.

PS3 model: 4 Month old 320 GB Slim

Hours played: 100+

Save file size: Currently 11 MB

How long after resuming play does it start to lag?: Instantly. It becomes totally unplayable about 3 minutes later or as soon as combat begins or a dragon appears.

How bad is the lag on a scale of 1-5?: 1 being the lowest/least amount and 5 the highest/most, with no exagerration, i'm am at 5

Thanks for trying to help. :)

Well done...

Someone has actually done something constructive at last, rather than just having a tantrum.
Hope this info helps out.

My current file size is 14MB, my character is level 38. Sadly I started getting the lag around level 26 and it gets progressively worst, the higher level I get. My husband who is a level 4 (he spends most of his time working and playing COD MW3) and he has yet to experience any lag during game play. We play Skyrim on PS3 (slimline edition). As far as how many hours I have played the game...too many hours to think off hand (hubby is on the PS3 at the moment so I can't look). And I also have about 2/4 to half of the map discovered (if not a bit more). Oh, worth mentioning, I can play for maybe a good 30 minutes without it lagging but after that the lag gets so bad that I have to just quit playing, and reloading doesn't help stop the lag.

It has nothing to do with what PS3 model you use, the PS3 has games that use much more power to run some of its exclusive titles. It's all down to the PS3 version of the game and how long you have played it, it's purely the PS3 port and nothing more.
