Help the noob: UVW Wrapping Problems

Post » Tue Dec 18, 2012 10:06 am

hello again,

I redownloaded skyrim and then ran a new game, it works just fine now and i was able to get my custom mesh in the ck

however, i'm having some issues with the uvw unwrap. Here's what the uvw unwrap rendered on the left, and here's my texture over it:

as you can see the logs on the left are horizontal while the texture is vertical, and you can see the end caps are done with a bit different texture. When i take this back over to 3ds, it works perfectly, strangely enough. when i put this into nifskope and subsequently into the ck, the endcaps are on the side of the log.

so confused! idonteven...

{Extended Version of Problem Below}

In 3ds, my UVW Unwrap steps are:

Modify Editable Poly > Select Polygon/Faces Option > Select All > Add UVW Unwrap Modifier > Select Polygon/Faces Option....

Let me pause here, when I select the Polygon/Faces Option in the UVW Unwrap Modifier options it puts this:

I then usually hit this button:

to make it look like this:

But in the end, i tried both ways, so it didn't do anything.

so continuing, after I click the Polygon/Faces option and mess with that yellow box line thingy, I click on the Open UV Editor button in the above picture to get here:

And then of course I flatten it to resemble the UVW map on the left in the very first pic, export it to photoshop and get to work.

The weird thing is that if follow the horizontal layout with the grain, by rotating the texture 90 degrees, its messed up in nifskope and 3ds, if I do it like i did in the first picture, it shows up fine in 3ds but not in nifskope.

and ive played with a few settings now and it doesn't like to work in 3ds or nifskope unless i just add the modifier, click the polygon button and then open uv editor and render. without touching any other values. Help!
