Decided on

breton

1 handed - mace

destruction - fire spells only

magicka regen and resistance perks from alteration and restoration

but cant decide between illusion or conjuration, will mainly use them for enemy distraction, what do you guys think?

I think maybe i will wait for people with a better opinion rather than people just trying to boost their post count

@A RANDOM sK

Well...Bretons get +10 to Conjuration from the start--making their starting Conjuration 25; apprentice level. Also, you can summon allies/reanimate enemies to aid you in battle (which is ALWAYS a good thing) and powerful weapons for moderate (to maybe high) damage. Illusion's ok, but, I think it's a school of magic for more stealth-based, confusion-making characters.

conjuration is great, but illusion can be very deadly if used right

Illusion is generally better than conjuration. Conjuration spells take up huge amounts of magicka from what I've seen. It will be easier to thin out the crowd using demoralize or turn some enemies against each other with frenzy or command. Plus, if you ever need to, just use invisibility to run away and heal.

you should add "And Why" or "elaborate" or "Explain" at the end of your question. right now your question only needs 1 word :wink_smile:

Thank you i understand what you mean i dont really plan on using invisibility just frenzy fear and calm within the illusion skill and would only use conjuration summons as distraction for me to create damage which i could just use the base summon familiar spell for

Hey, why not both? Crowd control is always nice, if you ask me.

@ Bapitty exactly i feel the worst thing for an unarmoured mage is to be surrounded but still i cant decide never really played a mage in oblivion so im not that skilled in it application but would really like to try it in skyrim

It's not that hard. Usually, I just use my crowd control spell on the closest enemy (or enemies), then follow it up with debuffs and destruction spells. Btw, from the footage I've seen, mages die FAST in Skyrim. Although if you're careful with your alteration spells and have a weapon, you can do without excessive crowd control.

I just love Illusion too much on pure mages to give it up, though. Even from a roleplaying perspective, a master wizard wouldn't dirty his hands on common enemies. He'd make them kill each other!

Im thinking illusion spells may not be that effective against dragons because of them in a way being the bosses of the game maybe summoning a familiar as a distraction would be a better tactic for me to heal and let off some destruction spells
