[REQ] Help with making new Wards

I'd like to add some new spells to my mod "http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=93908954" but I am hitting a brick wall on how to do some of the things I want, all of them associated with some fun new ideas for Wards. I'm not good with scripting and I could really use some help.

Elemental Wards
I would like the ability to make wards that block a specific kind of magic damage, but nothing else.

Exploding Ward
I would like the ability to cause a spell effect occur when a ward is "overloaded". Vanilla wards "break" when a certain amount of magic damage is done. I would like to be able to detect when that break happens, and then cause another spell effect to occur as a result.

For example:
Standard Ward Break Effect - Creates a physical shockwave
Fire Elemental Ward Break Effect - Causes Fire AOE equal to damage that broke the ward

Let me know if you know of any other mods that already do these effects, or if you could figure out how to help me with them.
MrJack has been a huge help in taking on Protector Spells with me, but so far we haven't had any luck pursuing this.

Wards may be really tricky to do...

If I belch a Fire Breath shout at a mook and they have their shield up... nothing. No matter how strong my shout is.

If I let fly with a Frost Breath... I can actually break their wards sometimes.

No matter what I've tried, the wards cannot be bypassed by conditionals or settings. It's a pain in the butt.
